I always wondered about these Edmonton journalists that toed the party line with such devotion. How could they apply for any other job anywhere? How could they conciously hand over a portfolio of articles that are all so out to lunch and expect to end up with a career outside of Edmonton? Maybe Toronto.
It appears a few have decided that they respect themselves and are turning. Would be too late for me if I ran a media outlet.
In a perfect world people would tell the truth; "The bottom line is that I wasn't ready to be an NHL head coach let alone turn around this mess. If anyone is going to turn this around I have 100% confidence he's not currently employed in this organization."
Sure, but in the real world that gets you in trouble. In the hockey world, that gets you blacklisted.

Hence him giving his boss a glowing review after being the fall guy for some terrible GM work. I'm sure that they had a discussion prior to this presser where MacTavish said he would put Eakin's name out there to other GM's as a good guy that got dealt a bad hand. Really this presser was a waste of time as while nobody really expected Eakins to take a hostage or two with him the way he was likely encouraged to praise the club is just another reminder of how much denial exists in the organization as even Oilers media and fans are now starting to open their eyes to the mess.
Putting the focus back on Eakins here despite getting dealt a bad hand he really did deserve to get fired. It was apparent halfway into last season that he was in way over his head and things just got worse as this man simply is not ready to be an NHL head coach and based on what we saw will probably never be. Just another reminder to be weary of anything from the overhyped Toronto market.

Six coaches on the ice for EDM's morning skate. And a 7th pouring over video.
