What Morris did was inexplicable punk ass move. But is he just another gritty, Canadian player who showed passion for the game there? NHL won't fine him, but they should according to rule 46.2. Refs had it as equal 2 minute minors for Whitney and Morris, that's a joke.

The Coyotes are a dirty team filled with whiners.
Most people brush off Don Cherry's opinions as nonsense these days. Refs probably gave them both 2 mins so they wouldn't be suspended next game for a fight in the last 5 minutes.

Did you actually watch the clip? Whitney initiates the whole thing. HE chirps Morris. He initiates contact. He gets a beating. The refs knew the story, that's why it's minors. Whitney deserved to get filled in and he did, and even better his gutless teammates watched the whole thing from a foot away.

ya, I think it was handled properly. No need for fines, nothing really happened other than the fact we got to see Yakopov just watch him get a knuckle sandwich a couple times.

Lol gotta love the announcers thinking it was Morris going after Yakupov for his celebration. Morris was pissed because of the battle in front of the net he kept losing and because he thought it was a hand pass. Right after the goal Morris rushes the ref and makes a hand pass signal.

Wasn't a hand pass, but another goofy celebration from another goof troop up north.

Thats exactly it. Whitney was getting hammered and not one Oiler did a damned thing about it.

Based on the video, I think the commentators are correct. He looks pissed about the celebration then Whitney gets in his business. Right at the end of the video as he's skating away with the ref post fight, you can see Morris doing the hand jesters Yak was doing. Pretty clear to me he was taking issue with the celebration.

Why is that better? Isnt that worse?

Whitney is then getting filled in because hes defending a teammate's lame goal celebration and all of his teammates let him bite fists while continuing on with their incredibly lame celebration ignoring the fact that hes getting smoked less than two feet away.

Says a lot about the attitude on that team to me.

Morris was complaining to the officials because it went off of Whitney's glove and Yakupov was the next to touch. So Whitney beaked him and that set him off. What was wrong with the celebration this time? He stood behind the net waiting for teammates and they did a group hug thing. Pretty standard for me.

I initially thought that the refs screwed up not calling that hand pass but the actual rule is that it's only a hand pass if directed to a teammate in the ref's opinion. Not automatically if a teammate is next to touch.

Nothing really, I thought the celebration was a bit lame but whatever.

What got me is that when one of your teammates is getting rocked right beside you then the time for celebrating is over and you go and help him.

The fact that this concept is completely foreign to the Oilers shows the kind of character and attitude that they have.

Is he going to do the big cerebration hey look at me crap every time he scores a goal. There's such a thing as acting as if you've done it before, and scoring not spiking.

If you stand out like the head of the nail eventually you get hit with a hammer.

Standing there doing the god celebration while your idiot team mate chirps the other team and then gets pounded into a Bill Cosby pudding like substance makes you look like an idiot.

For all of the uber talent, the Oilers are having trouble scoring, they're very cinderella at the moment, but if they don't fix their 5 on 5 hockey this nice little start for them will be a memory.

Why are you asking me if its better or worse? I never indicated any opinion on it being good, bad, better or worse? Simply responded to a post that was saying Morris wasn't taking issue with the celebration, I disagree, I believe he was taking issue with it, for better or worse.

Looked like Morris was gesturing to the refs by claiming the goal should not have counted because it was a hand pass to Yakupov and probably Whitney told him "bull$ hit" then bumped shoulders followed by a few verbal exchanges eventually leading to a Donnybrook.

BTW, shot hitting off Whitney's glove to Yakupov is a deflection not a pass.

Yakupov is so easy to dislike.

You know with his goofy goal celebrations he will get targeted. "LOOK AT ME! I AM AWESOME LOOK AT ME!"

Standing there with his arms outstretched wiggling his fingers while his teammates rush to him. The guy is bizarre.

Wish Morris would have fed him instead of Whitney, but I'm 100% positive that a beat down is coming to Yakupov soon.

If you watch the clip again you can see Yakupov doing the "come at me bro" hand gestures. I'm pretty sure that's what Morris took exception to.

Was pretty funny watching Morris pummel Whitney's face into ground turkey though.

I rather have a guy who is passionate about the game and loves to be part of the team by contributing than having a player displaying the polar oppostie. As long as he keeps scoring clutch goals to win games and being a young player of 18, does it really matter if situation sometimes get lost in translation in terms of his celebration(?)

It speaks volume about his character when Krueger has him out there during OT or an Oilers empty net situation-both times he came through and at the end of the day, a win is what counts the most.

Except when you're the Oilers and you celebrate losing. They should be reprimanding Yakupov for keeping them out of the draft race.
