I'd like to see him get post season action like Iggy did back in the day.
He could also really help this team right now.

If I read this right last week, Sven could only be called up on an emergency recall basis. This can only happen if we cannot dress 12 healthy forwards and are unable to make an AHL callup (because they are on the other side of the country for instance).

They likely can't even call him up in the play-offs unless they make it to the conference finals or even Cup finals as they have to wait for Portland to finish their season and that will likely take a long time with their team this year.

The final Winterhawks regular season game is on March 18th, so if they got upset in the first round of the playoffs, he could be available for the very end of the Flames or Heat season.
The Hawks have been a strong team all season, so it would be a big upset for them to get knocked out in the first round.
It's more likely that the Ice get knocked out early and Reinhart and Leach could be available to the Heat.

Let's not rush this kid. I know we are all eager to see him, but what is wrong with being patient? The Oilers rushed RNH and look at how he got hurt. Why not let him learn the game in the AHL?

RNH got hurt because of a few freak accidents that could not have been avoided at all and had nothing to do with him playing in the big league. Besides that he's been easily the best rookie and one of the Oilers best players.
If he earns a spot during training camp, you give it to him. No need to pre-determine either way what do with the kid.

Dont want to rush him either. But if the kid can earn a spot next year you give it to him. Sometimes talent grows in the AHL, sometimes it gets squandered. maybe what I am saying is let the river run its course.

Personally I am just excited about the kid. Look at his skill and think of his potential. If Calgary still has (healthy) winger depth come pre season, I have no problem with seasoning him in the AHL until he is possibly more Show ready, if he doesn't prove himself NHL ready come September.
I really like this kid. I look forward to his hockey career, and hopefully taking the reins from Iggy. In due time.

With that 51st assist, Bartschi tied his assist total for all of last year in 29 fewer games. Added another for good measure.

Small, thin kids are gonna get hurt more if they get hit. If we want to make the most of this kid, let him grow physically and as a player. Super happy about him spending another year in the dub, and would be very happy to see him in Abby next year. The last thing I want to see is what is happening to RNH. You may call them freak accidents, but he it's one skinny kid and taking shots from big bruisers is gonna take it's toll.

Baertchi, despite being shorter than RNH, weights more. He's 5'11 and 187, which is pretty much were he should be. I don't think size is that much of a concern with Baertchi. He'll probably be 190-195 by training camp which is plenty for a 5'11 forward. He's really not a thin kid.
Given the number of injuries the Heat have had, I don't think that playing for Abbotsford would reduce his chances of being injured in the slightest. Playing in the WHL yes, but not the AHL which is full of big, strong, hard hitting guys.

In 66 games last season, he had 85 points. He had a PPG average of 1.29
This year in 37 games he has 73 points, aka, a PPG average of 1.92!
That's simply ridiculous!

It will be interesting to see where THN positions him in the 2012 Future Watch. I would imagine it will be lower than we would like because he plays out west, has missed games due to injury, and he hasn't lit things up in the World Juniors.

Actually,he has a PPG average of 1.973. He's one 3 point game away from 2 PPG.
The good news is that nearly 60% of his points are ES points, so it's not like he's getting the majority of his points on the PP either which is really good news. He's scoring 66% of his goals at ES which is good as well (Rattie, on the other hand has over half of his goals on the PP). Baertchi actually has a similar ES goal scoring rate to Rattie at 0.38 ES + SH GPG vs 0.4 ES+SH GPG which should help appease those who are worried about his goal scoring ability. That ES goal scoring rate is right on par with most of the WHL's top players. Emerson Etem is in a whole different category though with 37 ES goals in 51 game or .73 ES GPG.

Didn't someone refer to him as maybe "The best player in the WHL" or something?
