Of freaking course the entire process goes by with only the Jays seeming to be mentioned and now with only hours to go Reports are starting to turn to the Rangers with both Heyman and Onley tweets.

Just can't wait for it to be over and fingers crossed we freaking get him.

Would guess the MLB bloggers are guessing.

Ya I think it has been all guesswork at this point besides a few teams saying they weren't in it. I think it is still possible that any of the Jays, Rangers, Mariners, Cubs and Nationals could win it.

Its all BS (i.e. MLB Tweet's), Jays won't say anything... MLB primes hardly ever get anything on a real rumour with the Jays.

Jays wouldn't comment if they placed a bid or the amount or anything about the player.......

Heyman and Onley MLB experts are definetely guessing what the Jays may have bid (or may not even bid...who knows)

A week ago, I was pretty 'meh' about Toronto winning this bid. But after about five straight days of rumours and hype, I'm somehow really worked up about this. My hunch based on all the rumours I've heard is still with Toronto (just because the early rumours of Toronto bidding up around $50 million, and the recent rumours of the winning bid being a little more than the Matsuzaka bid are consistent), but I'm trying hard to prepare myself for disappointment.

Well, the Cubs and Nationals have basically confirmed that they didn't make large bids (and in the Nationals case didn't even bid) so I'd factor them out.

Onley's tweet just smells of someone trying to draw traffic to his account. Posting the opinion of some random AL exec seems like something that should've been posted a week ago before the posting process even started. Wasn't as much a report as an opinion based on needs, willingness to spend, etc.

The Jays could very well lose the bidding, but based on the fact that initial reports from Texas beat writers had the Rangers putting in a modest bid and all the reports from Japan echoing the North American ones I'd say they're still by far the most likely candidate to win Darvish's services.

Thank you JayP. I needed a little help to get back from the ledge. Just a few more hours and hopefully we can find out!

Yeah I don't know what to think now. I don't know what could have changed from Friday until now, the bidding is over and there had been nothing official. The twitter world sure makes it a million times more nerve wracking when following sports rumors!

Onley just retweeted a tweet by some random dude (only has 27 followers and has never posted anything regarding inside information before) claiming he spoke to Bobby Valentine this week and AA personally told him they wouldn't get Darvish.

If that's not a guy trying to add followers by any means necessary I don't know what is.

The only relevant things coming out of twitter are the local reporters giving info on what the team they cover did. No one officially knows who won, but the MLB and Japanese league. But from a lot of the local reports, we know a lot of the rumored big players are out or put in small bids (Yankees, Cubs, Nationals, etc.), the Rangers put in a legitimate bid but likely nothing earth-shattering, and that Toronto's bid is fueled by Rogers wanting the marketing aspect of Darvish in which case it's almost assuredly a legitimate bid.

Only thing that changed was the rumour from the tweeter world that Jays finished 2nd in trying to acquire a starter who was traded yesterday.

MLB bloggers speculated that the Jays know they lost the bid and are trying other options.

(of course the insider are not getitng anything from the Jays... AA has went on the record many times saying he will not comment on signings or trades etc...).

Should be interesting to hear who wins.

So many contradictions in tweets and it's been such a long waiting period, that I'm almost going mad. I firmly believe that the Jays think they are going to win though. Have to wonder where AA will be getting the news from today?

Interesting time to be living in Toronto no matter what news comes in tonight.

You would have to think by now - through the rumour mill that excutives are probably in on - Anthopolous must have a pretty good indication of what is going to happen. Either the Jays know they have lost the bid, hence the Latos rumours, or Anthopolous really is going all out in getting the best rotation in the AL East. I'm going to side with the latter, and say Darvish and the Jays will soon be in contract talks.

Twitter could get really ugly tonight if the Jays don't get Darvish.

If the Blue Jays strike out on Darvish, they could increase their pursuit of Cubs right-hander Matt Garza.
Both the Rangers and Blue Jays like Garza, but the Rangers prefer Gonzalez, who is under club control for four more seasons, major-league sources say.

Garza, who is under control for two more years, is attractive to the Jays because of the success he enjoyed in the AL East while pitching for the Rays.

Agreed! It's fun to actually think we could have a chance to make a push at playoffs in the next few years.

I'd be fine with it to be honest, the only big name free agent the Jays have been linked to is Darvish. Tough as fans to not let it dictate our outlook on the team, but Garza has shown he can be strong against AL East opponent's and would fit in well.

The biggest thing I'd dislike the move is that we'd have to include a few pieces from the prospect pool and with Darvish we get a top of the rotation starter and we still keep one of the leagues best farm systems in place.
