I dont know, its kind of crappy. You could tell it was accidental, but it was still a straight-red which means its 3 matches.
What do you do? I cant argue that it didnt merit a straight red. In my opinion it certainly did. But does it merit 2 more matches on top of that? Considering that most would see it as accidental rather than malicious?
But those are the punishment for a straight red and theres no regulation indicating a lighter punishment for seemingly non-intentional incidents.
I'm guessing the appeal was a 'Hail Mary' but at least they tried. I can see where they're coming from but the rules are the rules.

I believe in the Jays.

The issue is that the rules gets applied differently in each scenario. There were 3 foot to head instances on the weekend and only one was a red card.
I agree that it was red though.
Edit: broken link for pic.

Yeah, I agree that the rules aren't evenly applied and that's an issue. At the same time though I think that what most people agree should have happened is 3 reds. I know it was accidental and not malicious, but that isn't the test.
And really 3 games seems pretty light given the severity. He came in with his studs up and drilled Ederson square in the face. There was no embellishment or anything like that, and it seems pretty cut and dried.

Maybe Mane was going for that hideous behind-the-ear tattoo but he missed?

6 minutes into the Roy Hodgson era and Crystal Palace is already down 1-0.

Van Dijk coming on as a sub late in the game.
Mario Lemina has been great for Southampton, as well as Wesley Hoedt ... looks like they struck gold with their summer signings. Palace have actually played quite well at times today, but they just can't buy a goal at the moment. Also doesn't help that their best players are loanees ... Fosu-Mensah has been good again today and Loftus-Cheek was excellent.

All kinds of records being broken by Palace... first team since 1888 to not score and lose in their first 5 games.

Is this more of what we saw last fall from City though? I think last September it was all 'Pep has the PL figured' and that sort of thing. Then they stumbled and weren't all that impressive for the most part. Not saying they were bad at all, but just alright for one of the top third in the league of that makes sense.

I think if there's one big difference with City this year it's how ferociously they press the ball. When they force mistakes and can hit you with Aguero, Silva, Jesus, De Bruyne, Sane and more on the counter, you are in deep trouble. De Bruyne got hurt last year as well, and as we can see again this year he's arguably the very best player in the league, just no weaknesses and does everything at a high level.

Nice of Spurs to concede the league early this year at least.

Also, Mike Dean with yet another masterfully officiated game. How is this guy still employed?

That's super confident to make a prediction about the league five games in.
Spurs played well enough to win, again, today. They struggle when teams sit back though, and that's been an ongoing issue for a few years now. Sometimes they just don't take their chances and it costs them points. I don't think that anyone is just going to roll through unblemished though. United had a draw against Stoke last week. Chelsea lost to Burnley. It's a long season, but I have no doubt that Spurs will be in the thick of it come the spring.

Dropping 8 points at home is huge no matter what time of year it is. It's incredibly difficult to make that up.
