The 5th Ave bridge by the Drop In Center took like 2 years to rehab, so I am not holding a lot of hope of this Stoney Bow River bridge...

I am no expert, but I would think there are three important factors:
1) The 5th ave bridge was showing signs of breaking down, so in much greater need of rehab.
2) Similar to above, the 5th ave bridge has to be a lot older than the Stoney bridge
3) They are closing the bridge to work on it, as opposed to allowing traffic to continue to travel over it. This should allow them to work on more at one time, and not have to factor in weight on the bridge.

The bridge is not that old, not sure how much rehab there is to do on it? Maybe some repaving and new line markings? And patch over where the median in the middle used to be.

It's closing in on 30 years old. It's basically the perfect time for a proactive rehab project.

Far from finished, but I'd say that's a nice little milestone.

The southbound lanes on Stoney over the new bridge were open this morning. North bound was still closed.

1998 completion for the old bridge. Was inspected in May of last year with a 44% sufficiency rating (adequacy relative to a new structure at the same location) which is pretty much the "acceptable but ready for rehab" kind of range. It's not an exact science, and not really a figure indicative of build quality or anything but as stated above it's a good time to rehab.
22X bridge over the Bow they nuked and are taking a century to rebuild was at 33%.

Pavement on the SB lanes of the old bridge were being torn up yesterday when I drove past. Paving the crossover to shift NB traffic onto the new bridge and then I imagine they will do the same for the remainder of the old bridge. Was hoping for a full opening of the bridge this year but maybe the rehab is scheduled to coincide with full opening of the entire WRR in 2024?

Yes, the new bridge is to the west of the old bridge.

Seeing as we have a lot of knowledgeable people in this thread- anybody have any insight as to when they might do the 130th ave SE partial interchange? Right now it's quite a bit out of the way to go to 114th as you have to go around the dump; and deal with 7 or 8 sets of lights in the process.
Alternatively if it isn't currently scheduled- what might be a good way to get them moving on it? When I emailed my MLA a few years ago they gave me some wishy-washy answer.

Most work on Stoney on the east side of the city is developer driven these days. Essentially if a land developer is willing to chip in then the government will consider it. As an example, if whoever is developing Hotchkiss finds out that 22X won't support all the development they want to do there, they'll ask the government if they want to split the cost of the interchange at 130th. Those acreages near 130th will probably delay it lots though.

I think curves' question is more around the fact that so much of the west leg looks to be paved, will they open up any sections of it a bit early. (I'd bet no, but it sure would be nice)

I don't believe it's currently budgeted through to at least 2024 from what I could dig up on the city website. I always found it crazy they built out 88 St that connects to nothing... this one would service a lot of existing residents and it's not getting done.

I think that it would create a bit of a traffic nightmare if they opened any of it up early.
Currently Stoney ends at major highways, which can handle the volumes a bit better. 16th and Sarcee act as a bit of a pseudo ring road at the moment, and SB Sarcee at Bow can barely handle it already at peak times.
Old Banff Coach Road, 69th, etc. with all of the lights and intersections wouldn’t fare very well, and I think it would be a gong show. Once that can of worms gets opened, it can’t be closed.

Sarcee and Bow is the worst intersection in Calgary. And development plans call for significantly increasing the density of all those communities east of the intersection.

It's a good candidate for a diverging diamond interchange, but there isn't really much room there. Tons of utilities that would need moving which drives the cost up exponentially.
I don't blame the city for waiting until Stoney is in service to see what the traffic patterns are post ISD.

There is a freaking park with NOTHING on the NE corner of Sarcee/Bow, there must be a way to expand the roads and make a better interchange there.
