Giving star players extra protection is like letting a Ferrari race in a nascar race and give them an extra wide lane no one else is allowed to go on.
You get stardom by being better that everyone else within the same rules. Not by having everyone else giving you extra room. I am sure Sam Bennett would be a 25G guy if no one was allowed to touch him.

Plus, it isn’t as though the stars aren’t already protected by a vastly less physical and demanding game than decades past.
What Mario Lemieux wouldn’t have given to receive McDavid levels of mistreatment on a nightly basis.

I've always thought that the Flames need to play McAvi much more physically than they do. I get that it's easy for me to say that from the couch. If you get caught even slightly out of position his speed will make you pay, but we've got to find a way to legally make his nights miserable, similar to what Regehr used to do to Hemsky.
Not only do I think it would be successful, it would be an awful lot of fun to watch!

box him to the outside, slam him into the boards when you can, don't let him cut to the net. If he tries to, do what ever you have to do in the most physical manner possible. Punch him in scrums. get in his way in the neutral zone so he can't wind up, and make sure they you're back check is done right.
Drive Edmonton crazy by hammering on him and making him frustrated, make the Oilers chase you around the ice in a vain attempt at retribution.
In other words don't give him a free lunch. And if he tries his BS back biting in scrums feed him hard.

Gotta get on him in the Oilers zone before he gets going, and stick with him (which frustrates him). If you're trying to stop him once he enters the offensive zone at full speed, you're at a huge disadvantage.

I love the Oiler media narrative that they aren’t re-signing Nugent-Hopkins so they don’t have to protect him in the expansion draft.
With or without him, who do they risk losing of consequence?
No one.
Jujhar Khaira? Dominick Kahun? Hawt Stuff!!

I’d be 1000x more enthusiastic to sign Nugent-Hopkins this summer than I would Taylor Hall.

Not at any $7M. He's worth no more than Backlund IMO. I'm yet to be convinced about his ability to contribute to a team's success.
Maybe offer sheet Yamamoto just to make them have to pay him. LOL.

McDingus is never back in his zone. Usually up cherry picking waiting to make a play and getting Cassie's attention.

Weird won't let me quote
"Well, Manning did come out the off season after the original incident and admitted he was trying to hurt McDavid.
Think that’s a little different, and it makes Manning’s acquisition even more asinine."
I think that was a reaction, to all the crap that was thrown his way, that he just came out and said that, it was a split second play, I doubt he had time to think to himself that he would hurt him.

Oilers only have 5 forwards under contract after this year anyway. And three of them are Kassian, Archibald and PullYourRV.

Right, but Brad likes to do stupid things on July 1.
And if he’s going to do stupid things anyway, I’d rather pay the younger centre over the older idiot winger who chose to sign with the Sabres for a year instead of the Penguins or Knights.

He's been low key since 2018. I'd say he only was "stupid" about Neal and that opinion wasn't even based on stats - it's based on behind the scenes stuff. The rest of his July 1 deals: Brouwer - I thought that one looked OK. Talbot - no issue with that. Czarnik - not a huge risk. Frolik - very good signing. Hiller: 50%. Engelland - just fine.

Ryan was a good signing. How happy are Flames fans today that he is still here?

How could I forget.
And technically James Neal was not a July 1 signing. Signed on July 2.

One thing that's not being talked about with regards to the "don't touch McDavid" rules is that the guy is 6'1 200lb. He is Iginla's size. You don't like something, drop the mitts.
Iginla did that and he did that during a time where big bruisers where a lot more common.
Did anyone talk about the refs making more room for him?

Man the Oilers are stupid.
Has the Edmonton broadcast crew come up with a new, season-long, mcvirus yet this season? I thought they would've done it after he got shut out by Toronto, but I suppose with covid they have to come up with a new "illness".

Darryl Sutter hates the Edmonton Oilers. Probably because they are no good.
