Arguably worse conditions this morning than what we faced on the commute home yesterday afternoon/evening.

Sitting this day out! Gotta head in tomorrow though, so I assume it'll all be melted and dry by then.

Was nice to see that as early as 0530 there was a crew clearing the north side of the Bow, they were at Edmonton trail area heading west, had cleared all the way around the zoo and up to just before Telus Spark.

I buckled and drove today. I didn't get a chance to put on my studded tries. Otherwise, I would have ridden in.
Ride home yesterday was a bit slippery but not too bad overall. Had to keep it slow.

ALL ABOARD!

Any of you commuters want this? I bought it years ago when I was going to commute but moved the office back home so it's been in a closet, never worn for a while.
Size Medium
Free but you have to pick it up in McKenzie Towne.

Not dead, gears were not happy yesterday with ice building up on cassette and making all gears skip, stopped in Carburn park washrooms and sprayed hot water on the ice, almost got me all the way home.
I refuse to ride studs out of stubbornness, thought the ride in was better this morning than yesterday afternoon, colder so just snow to deal with instead of slush.
If you can get an untouched section of path it's great, foot prints and other tire tracks make ruts a challenge.
Summer ride in is 45-50 mins, an hour 7 today so not horrible.

Unfortunately a medium would look like spandex on me

I've seen you in lycra. It's not terrible. Not great, but not terrible.

FYI, Main roads are slop, side roads are ice but rideable if you take the first rut, and fish creek was awesome. Probably could ride a road bike save a couple corners and the bird sanctuary having some residual ice that you just need to pay attention for. All in all a much better ride in than I was expecting today.

I had a slow one in today. Most of the side streets I rode were pretty treacherous with lots of hidden ice. The pathways were decent enough. Managed to keep it upright, though.

Edworthy/Downtown/Edworthy - mostly hard pack with a few grooves and icy bits here and there. Zero issue with the fat bike. Coming back end of day though way way more ice and far less snow. Glad to be on the FB, and glad I put more pressure into tires for ride home. Didn’t think these things could be that slow. But zero concerns about icy or grooves.

Funny to see that pop up. I'd never heard of the company, but just bought the "plus" version of that jacket a few days ago.
So far it seems good. The version i have has a built in LED above the tail flap and is actually marked as the woman's version, though not cut/tapered so as you could tell.
I also picked up the Proviz Storm which is very similar but for some differences in features. Also a good jacket but will likely return in favour of the arrowhere which was about half the price on sale. Plus the Proviz has a hood which I'm not too sure about.
For anyone who fits a medium, free is a really good price for the arrowhere jacket I'd say.

It sounds like critical mass is on tonight. I'm curious how many will show up because of the cold but the roads are dry at least. Great to see the mayor join in last month. Unfortunately I can't make it as the winter bike isn't set up yet but maybe next time.

“Cycling rather than driving was positively associated with orientation towards the common good in all models,” the study found. “Cycling was the only variable that was a significant positive predictor for all four facets of orientation towards the common good after controlling for possibly confounding variables (homeownership, personal income, education, sex).”

Cyclists better people than drivers. Discuss.

Pathways are great again, ripped in on the road bike this morning, no issues.

It depends a lot on what tires you have. Some studless tires can be pretty decent. Studs will absolutely let you climb more when it gets icy or even some types of hard pack, and they will keep you riding faster and off your ass in slick conditions. For the freeze/thaw we get, I would just get studs as soon as they are attainable so you can maximize the fun you'll get out of the bike purchase you made.

Nose Creek has been a ghost town for me in the early mornings lately. But the week before the snow it was full of ninja riders heading opposite me.
