Pretty sure this possibility was speculated few weeks ago when Russia's cracks first began to show.
smart by Japan. This is the prefect time for them to get their islands back.
Putin is going to lose a lot of face and there is little he can do about it.
What else can we snag from Russia while they are distracted? Kaliningrad seems ripe for the plucking, all isolated and on its own. I think I saw some Nazis there, too. Time for a "special operation".
RealLifeLore with another great summary video on the longer term consequences of Putin's war on Ukraine covering topics like European Russian energy dependence, travel consequences, food security, etc. Countries dependent on Russia/Ukraine for energy or food, like Germany/Lebanon/Egypt, are going to hurt a lot short term.
With Russia threatening immediate shutoff of European energy sales in response to the sanctions/non-payment of gas contracts in Rubles, and Germany threatening retaliatory nationalization of Russia's energy assets in the EU should Russia do that, prices for these things will be going up for everything in the short term. Possibly catastrophically so in some places.

Excellent move on the Japanese part. Without having to expend anything militarily, they deny Russia use for their eastern Siberian forces in the Ukrainian conflict.
That Putin video is crazy. Germany should call his bluff. They have a contract with payment terms. Yo either accept that, or get nothing. It's spring, so they won't free to death. yes, it will be a challenge. But they got themselves in this mess.

I was thinking about this the other day. Ukraine is a major grain supplier to the ME and when food price increases and scarcity take hold this summer, there stands a good chance of civil unrest in that region. Ukraine could be a pretty big domino.

Egypt importing 85% of their wheat from Ukraine+Russia is the biggest one. As if that country needed any more instability. Lebanon having only a one month supply of wheat left is kinda scary too. We are quite lucky in Canada having an abundance of water, food, and energy.

Would be shocked if this isn't a bluff. Gas is their big source of money. I mean this invasion was stupid so wouldn't be shocking if they do something else stupid - but it would be stupid. Particularly in the spring/summer.

Those countries do rely on Ukraine/Russia - but other countries will fill the slack at least somewhat. Its dire, but its not as dire as some stats would have you believe.
I would call that propaganda. On the wests side of things.
Why would Russian troops lay mines like that? Wide open and easy to see. Maybe to lure them around such an obvious death trap to the mines deployed to the side.
Makes no sense at all. Yes if one vehicle rolls over them 15 mines explode to take out one vehicle. Total waste of exposives. Again makes no sense!
This is like seeing a couch on Deerfoot. I go around. Again that is probably the plan. Propaganda aint it great!
Russian troop have radiation poisoning but the Ukrainian workers appear to be ammune?
More propaganda.
I do not know what to believe in this war.
I am 100 percent on the Ukraine side of things with one exception. They had a choice to join Nato but refused too. Now they beg and plead for weapons.
Hard to support a country that does not support our values.
Location: In a land without pants, or war, or want. But mostly we care about the pants.

One of my favorite things is when there is a large image posted in a thread so that I have to scroll the whole page right to read, cutting off the poster aliases in the left column, then I go through someone's odd take, scroll to the left, and see it is exactly who I guessed it to be that wrote it.
Thanks chubeyr1!

Russia has lost a tremendous amount of gear in the last 3-4 days outside of Kharkiv at Malaya Rohan, Trostyanets' Sumy, and Nova Basan east of Kyiv. The twitter account below is quite the doom scroll.
So those mines put out in the open like that is a great militarty tactic?
It is the worst positioning of mines one could do. I am not an expert but I do play video games lol.
The Ukraine could of joined nato for 30 years. They didnt!
Why not?
I should repost your meme of the old chick saying wat?
They should of joined.
They did not and now wish they did. Wat?
You are aware if they had joined there would not be a war right?
Wat?
I have read elsewhere that many armies use mines like that to set up a temporary check point, the whole point is they can be seen so nothing passes over them and they can be picked up and taken away easily, its the anti tank equivalent of a baby gate

When did Ukraine refuse to join Nato? Yanukovych, who was basically a pro-Russian puppet before he was ousted by the Ukrainian people, seems to have been the only Ukrainian leader opposed to Nato Membership.
Recent development that the main reason why south areas like Kherson fell so quicky is because Ukraine had traitors in their general ranks that aided Russians
Most notable Kherson was given with barely a fight which is counter to the fact that it was near Crimea and should have been well defended. These acts of treasons heavily contributed to Mariupol's current situation.
It was also been known that one of the main reasons why Putin thought that Ukraine would be easy pickings, is that he tasked the FSB, most notably Beseda and his deputy, to bribe Ukraine officials to switch sides at the time of the invasion. The funds were embezzled for years until a faithful meeting in the fall where Putin finally unveiled his wishes to invade Ukraine. They are thought to be the source of how US had such amazing pre-war intelligence that clearly showed they had insider information.
