Yeah, but schultz only took one. And Talbot hasn't been there as long I think.

Right about Schultz, but the original comment was about goalies. I'm actually not against the idea of Talbot, just a little concerned that they've broken his spirit and confidence.

This is Broissoit’s first season away from Edmonton after having been there for five years. He is having a great season.

We should really be rehabilitating all of their former players and putting them back on the market for a profit.

I don't think it would work like that. Talbot is actually playing fairly well even right now. I'd take him at a decent 2 year contract.

Spent my Christmas in Edmonton with my fiancee.. all I can is.. that new arena.
It's no good. Especially compared to our future arena.

Make fun all you want but Talbot last year on a crapoy team sported a .909 which for a real NHL team is probably a .925.
This year has been rougher but I think he's fatigued. His last few games have been better.

No one was making fun of Talbot (recently). You quoted a poster who noted that despite losing their last game, Edmonton was able to fall back into a playoff spot with the Dallas loss.
Christmas cheer I assume

Even Hitchcock is realizing that the Oilers are no good
https://edmontonsun.com/sports/hocke...ers-really-are
Quote:
he deeper Ken Hitchcock gets into his tenure with the Edmonton Oilers, the more he realizes why he is their seventh coach in the last 10 years.
There are more holes in this roster than solidified positions.
Once you get past the four forwards who actually generate goals and assists — Connor McDavid, Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, Leon Draisaitl and Alex Chiasson — everyone else is pretty much a passenger when it comes to offence.
|
Quote:
“Rather than rely on the same two or three people every night all the time to do everything, I’m trying to get more people connected. We aren’t getting enough support players.”
|
Quote:
Even the Identity Line, which wasn’t even asked to score (although that was pretty much the tacit understanding when the three of them were put together) has lost momentum.
“We had it going a little bit when we put Brodziak’s line together,” said Hitchcock. “But they’ve struggled, they haven’t been as good as they were before.”
|
Quote:
“As the (Tampa Bay) game went on we got a little bit exposed with what lineup we’re dressing right now,” said Hitchcock who had a lot to think about over the Christmas break. “We’re going to have to find a way to get through it for a little while.”
|
Translation, hey Chia, this team I'm coaching outright sucks.

Talbot is intriguing as a potential Flames goalie. Especially if Rittich sticks with his current strong play and Talbot could be had at a relatively low AAV.
Rittich could potentially allow the Flames to take more of a chance.

Always got the feeling the Hitchcock is doing this short term gig so he can actually hear if all the rumors about the meddling executive (Lowe) and incompetent people that make up the rest of Oilers executive are true, and for a chapter in a future book.
Lowe on the other hand has a bigger plan for part of all this. Short term harsh reality about the roster, assuming Hitch can't work miracles and get them sniffing a playoff spot... get the outside trusted advisor to work as coach for a few months (Hitchcock saying they'll have to make do with the players they have for a little while, means until April when he steps back into the shadows) and it gives Lowe the backup of Hitchocks words as the backup required to make the change from Chia, and other changes, at least. Washes Lowe's hands if it, and I don't think he was on board with the hire in the first place, given his demotion that offseason by Katz.
Lowe built the the structure that allowed him to make all the decisions but pass all of the blame. He got pushed back when Chia and McLellan came in, but Lowe once again has weaseled his way back into Katz's ear and trust, and is steering the ship again. My guess in Nicholson retires at the end of the year too, as sson as they wake him up from his nap.

What am I missing here? I don’t recall Kevin Lowe ever receiving a demotion.
