I agree it would probably make the Oilers chances of winning a cup far greater but I don't think Kopitar would be down for that as I think he probably plans on retiring a King.

From the Oilers point of view they know full well it will be impossible to keep both and McDavid has to be their top priority so I don't see them going crazy with offers to keep Draisaitl knowing that the more they give him, the less they can offer McDavid. I think there's a chance McDavid stays in Edmonton. It may be a small chance but at the end of the day money talks and McDavid doesn't strike me as being a savvy guy.
|
If Leon leaves I don't see Edmonton keeping McDavid unless they trade Leon and do well in the deal. But they will have to make that call next summer and they can't make a deal where the value in the deal in mainly picks and prospects.

Call me crazy, but I think they can get back a little more than a 35 year old Kopitar for him.

Ignoring the fact that Kopitar would refuse such a trade, just a terrible trade for the Oilers.
If they trade Drasaitl, they should get premium picks and prospects and cap space which they can utilize to improve their team greatly.

This is something they realistically should be able to do. We are talking about a Hart trophy winner here and perennial scoring leader runner up. It's not exactly the same as trying to find a great return for Hanafin or Lindholm.

Teams like Chicago and Anaheim would be able to offer a package of attractive prospects, along with a very high pick next year. And could take on his salary without having to dump some back.
And adding Draisaitl instantly raises them up into the playoff conversation (a year from now).

Ya if the Oilers play it smart Draisaitl and McDavid, if they trade them, should set them up to be competitive for the next 10 years after the trade. They should be good well into the 2030’s.

Is LA offering 2 1sts to go along with that? Or a top player like Fiala? Edmonton would be dumb to do that.
If they’re selling Draisaitl, it’s likely when they’ve got so much $’s tied to bonuses, buyouts (Campbell and Nurse likely haha), and not enough $’s to ice a good team. They’d be better off selling him at the deadline at 50% in 2025.

I would absolutely love if the Oilers traded Draisaitl for an older cetner instead of defense and some great young prospects

Honestly - as much as I hate the Oilers.. this would be an atrocious move for Edmonton.
Would you have wanted to trade Tkachuk for Brad Marchand last year?

“I’d still like to make a trade,” MacLellan said. “We were aggressive at the draft with our offers, but nothing ever materialized. I feel we have some pretty good offers out there, and the guys [we’re pursuing] haven’t moved yet. I don’t know if they move them now or when they move them. Maybe at the deadline? I’m not sure what happens. Some guys need to be signed. So we’ll stay involved in all of that stuff.”

Kinda wish we could trade Kadri for Kuznetzov.
Won't happen because I don't think the Flames would do it, but I do think it would be best for the franchise at the end of the day.

I wouldn’t trade much for Kuz at this point. He’s 31, expensive, and his GAF meter is low. Plus, hasn’t he been suspended for off-ice incidents in the past?
