Without an elite first line center on the team with him, I don't think Bennett will perform nearly as well. He would probably feel like a frustrating player who tries to do too much himself, but keeps getting burned for it and taking stupid penalties.
Describes his stint in calgary pretty well

Yikes

Yeah. Ouch. Wizardry at work

That’s why I have noted that Tre helped Zito build this team

Zito identified what his team was lacking and got 2 key pieces from Calgary that fit that identity, and got that one for scraps

Now Tre is in Toronto noticing that they are lacking that same type of player

He was good with Chucky and Johnny, after that it was downhill for 3 seasons

Let's not forget the Wizard's work in free agency. Now he has the opportunity to massively overpay a player (Bennett) that he previously traded for table scraps. I was initially a little ticked about how he quit the Flames for the Leafs but it's all starting to work out for the best for Flames fans as Conroy is doing a better job and he's going to run the Leafs into the ground.

I am confused here. After Lindholm had a 40 goal 82pt season he went down to 64pts in 80 games and then 32pts in 49 games before he was traded and finished that season with 44pts total before getting 47 in Boston this year.

Where is this 78 coming from?

If Bennett retires at 38 with 2 cups, great playoff scoring stats, a stack of cash, and be a beloved player in Florida for years.....some flames fans are still going to say he was overpaid because he doesn't score in the regular season, took dumb penalties, and played with good players that carried him.

It was a stupid trade at the time. Many of us saw it then. You take the good with the bad with Sam, and the good far outweighs the bad when it comes to how he plays in the playoffs.

lol no it wasn't. There was no outrage when Bennett left. He was at his max here in Calgary and he had no one to blame but himself for having a hockey IQ of a dragonfruit here.

Go back to the Bennett trade thread.

Ha. On queue. There's one of them! I forgot about the hockey IQ complaint too.

SB leads the playoffs in goals....but good riddance! He has low IQ!!

If he can stop the Oilers again it will be one of the best trades the flames ever made along with Chucky.

I still think if it weren't for the expansion draft, Bennett would probably still be here. Treliving tried to get in front of it by getting something for nothing, but probably would have been better off rolling the dice and making Seattle pick either Bennett or Gio. Gio went for 2 2nd and a 3rd at the trade deadline for Seattle. Losing Bennett and being able to trade Gio would have been a better result.

Would have seen much of playoff Sam if he stayed here? Impossible to know.

The important thing is to belabor and relitigate the trade until the end of time. That way everyone wins.

Relitigation of past Flames trades probably single-handedly keeps enough traffic on the site to keep it running, so I won't ask people to stop, but I'm always fascinated to see that for some people, no amount of time passing will be enough to heal these wounds.

I'm sure if I started a thread about the Gilmour/Leeman trade it would still get 100 posts.

That was essentially the worst GM thread recently, where most of the thread had to do with Gilmour/Leeman. So you're right on the money there.

We're doomed to discuss some of these topics over and over until the end of time.

Maybe Florida, squeezes him in.

They have $19m in space next year (keeping the band together, means discounts)
Ekblad $7 x 8
Bennett $8 x 8
Samoskevich $3 x 1

Marchand, would be a cap casualty, in this scenario, unless he takes close to league min.
