By paying them too much, you end up attracting the wrong kind of people into politics. Too many are in it for the money and those are the same ones who end up lying and cheating their way through it.

I'm not sure what he has to gain by making a statement like that. Not very bright in my opinion.

I liked the giant rose Mulcair was wearing on Monday.

When they interviewed him Monday night, I was wondering "who is this freak?", I didn't realize he was Jack's second in command. Although, if he keeps making comments like that, he might not be for long.

Seriously? Did you even read what I wrote?

I'm well aware that my transatlantic flights aren't the most environmentally friendly thing to do. However, having a green conscious doesn't mean that I can only wear hemp clothing while travelling by foot or on a bicycle made of bamboo.

Things aren't always black or white/all or nothing. This mature and rational way of thinking is what the Green Party needs to embrace so they can begin to operate in the shades of grey.

And what will paying them too little accomplish? Getting the lowest common denominator in the door.

Top talent follows money - across any industry. Compensation 101.

150,000 - no guarantee of job certainty (some MPs were out of a job after a very short amount of time) - not exactly what people will line up for if they're already getting a 6 figure salary (and these are the people you WANT to attract).

Self satisfaction can only take someone so far...

Parachuted in, or did he fly in due to a tornado?

Seriously stupid comment to make. The NDP already has a reputation of being against the Afghan mission, and that comment won't help a bit.

I'm sure Canadians are generally grateful that Bin Laden is dead. The 9/11 attacks were emotional for us as well(going by the 9/11 thread on here). We might not 'celebrate' like our American counterparts, but the overwhelming response I've felt is that we're glad the scumbag is dead.

So you would have to be pretty stupid to say that you have to find out whether there was self defense involved, or if the SEALs just shot him in the head without letting him defend himself.

Just a stupid, stupid comment to make.

Now we have a bunch of morons serving as the official opposition. Liberals better get their act together because the NDP are far from being ready to serve.

What a ridiculous statement and utterly moronic as well.

I thought he was one of the sane ones.

Serious question, but what makes his comments so bad? I'm woefully uneducated on the whole thing.

Is asking for an inquiry into a possible murder that bad?

Edit - watched the clip associated with the article. What an idiot.

He states he doesn't think the pictures exist. He's asked to explain why he thinks the pictures exist and responds with "It's very hard to explain a negative proposition. . . . If the American's say such things do exist then it will be up to them to release them."

Then Soloman says that, from the fact that the US has said that they won't release the photos, he infers they have some, to which Mulcair responds "I don't think it's germane."

Finally, he finishes off by saying that the photos wont provide proof as to whether "Mr. Obama was indeed holding a weapon."

Again -- Idiot.

To me it wouldn't have mattered if Osama was sleeping, he was a legitimate military target.

There was no crime here.

The only crime is that it took so long.

The NDP has been running student aged candidates in elections for years now in ridings where they couldn't find anyone else with much for qualifications interested in doing the job. As they say....throw enough darts and a couple will hit the board.

For these youngins it will seem like a lot of money, and it is, I wish I could get paid half that....but IMO the MP's salary is the last thing that attracts people to politics, or keep them in it. The power is what these people crave. Hence why so many of these guys retire, only to return later often with a different party. In fact I would be so bold as to claim most seasoned politicians could probably act well enough to convince people that they believe in their party's platform...when they really don't care...they just want to get in and have power.

It wouldn't have mattered to me if OBL was tied up and drugged when they went in. Absolutely nothing wrong with shooting the guy, and I'm sure that every New Yorker that lived through that day would have had no problem doing that task themselves, let alone everyone else.
