Leave Lindholm for the Oilers, the last thing they need is another small Euro player. I bet if we take Monahan though they either draft a D-man or just trade the pick.

Monahan would be awesome though, Eric Staal type player? Yes please.
Elias Lindholm is 6 feet tall and the same weight as Monahan, why do you think he's a small player?

Draftsite now has us pick Monahan at 6, Mantha at 22 and McCoshen at 29.

What i've seen is Lindholm is 5'11 and Monahan is 6'2. And once Monahan fills out he will be a bigger center, which is what we most desperatley need, no?

the hockey news mini draft from april 30th

Quote:
6. Calgary Flames: Elias Lindholm ( C ), Brynas (SEL)
The Flames need skill and scoring from younger sources going forward, especially from the center position. Lindholm can solve a lot of issues here. He also fits Calgary, who is becoming Euro-centric.
interesting that we are trending toward being euro centric in their eyes

the only site that has Lindholm at 5'11 is hockeyDB, and they are never up-to-date with height and weight. Every other site has Lindholm at 6'0, his weight varies between 183 and 192, depending on where you're looking. Size shouldn't be an issue with Lindholm.

well that's not a stretch in my eyes. They drafted Sven and Backs in the first round, they acquired Horak and Ramo, they signed Hudler and Cervenka last summer, they acquired Berra and there's also Granlund and Ortio ... and we could draft Lindholm (or Barkov, fingers crossed) this year. There are teams with less Euros in the system, I'm sure

More mocks
http://thehockeyguys.net/2013-nhl-mo...draft-lottery/
Quote:
6th – Calgary Flames – Sean Monahan, C (Ottawa, OHL)
With the selection of Ottawa 67’s forward Sean Monahan, the Flames finally land their number one centre they’ve been searching years for. This two-way forward played on a terrible Ottawa 67’s team this year but that didn’t stop him from competing night in and night out, showing a ton of character along the way. Monahan is a responsible two-way centerman who will not wow you with flashy offensive attacks but he knows how to play the game and uses his excellent hockey sense to make an impact in all areas of the rink.
Past five 1st Round picks: Mark Jankowski F (21st, 2012), Sven Baerstchi F (13th, 2011), Tim Erixon D (23rd, 2009), Greg Nemisz F (25th, 2008), Mikael Backlund F (25th, 2007)
Quote:
25th – Calgary Flames (via St. Louis Blues) – Anthony Mantha, LW (Val-d’Or Foreurs, QMJHL)
In my personal draft rankings, Anthony Mantha is rated as a top 15 prospect but his game isn’t without some concerning qualities leaving me to believe he could slide come draft day. Mantha was one of only a few junior players who cleared the 50-goal plateau so it’s clear the big winger can snipe goals. His ability for putting the puck in the back of the net is within the top echelon of the draft class. It is his wavering compete level that has scouts leaving the rink somewhat concerned. In the end, Mantha’s ability to change the game with one shot will be coveted and that guarantees him a high selection.
Quote:
29th – Calgary Flames (via Pittsburgh Penguins) – Zachary Fucale, G (Halifax Mooseheads, QMJHL)
The biggest piece of the Jarome Iginla trade could be used to address a departing franchise player this offseason in Miikka Kiprusoff, not former captain Iginla. With rumours surfacing that long-time Flames netminder Kipprusoff will call it quits this summer, GM Jay Feaster would be wise to add a top-notch goaltender prospect to soften the blow. Zachary Fucale is the top ranked puck stopper and he comes with an abundance of big game experience as he continues to lead his powerful Halifax Mooseheads to a hopeful Memorial Cup appearance.

Why does everyone think the Flames will select a goaltender? 1st round goaltenders have not worked out for this organization ever and there's already an abundance of prospects in the sytem.

At 30th, if he is the BPA, I say we go for it. 30th picks are a relative long shot anyway.

I agree, no need for a first round goalie. Need more depth in Forward ranks.

We desperately need a legit center who can play a two way game with a good offensive game and make his linemates better.

I will be ok with either of these two, but we can't have size myopia. Skill wise I feel Lindholm is above Monahan, but obviously Monahan is no slouch.

I agree. Just for fun, here are the goaltenders that were taken between 25 and 30 over the last few years:

2001 - #26 by DAL - Jason Bacashihua (Chicago/NAHL) [3rd goalie in the draft]
2001 - #29 by CHI - Adam Munro (Erie/OHL) [4th goalie in the draft]
2002 - #25 by CAR - Cam Ward (Red Deer/WHL) [2nd goalie in the draft]
2002 - #29 by BOS - Hannu Toivonen (HPK/Sm-liiga) [3rd goalie in the draft]
2004 - #26 by VAN - Cory Schneider (US National U-18) [4th goalie in the draft]
2006 - #26 by CGY - Leland Irving (Everett/WHL) [4th goalie in the draft]
2008 - #30 by DET - Thomas McCollum (Guelph/OHL) [2nd goalie in the draft]
2010 - #27 by PHX - Mark Visentin (Niagara/OHL) [2nd goalie in the draft]

Not a stellar line-up. I see one all-star and one NHL starter, the others are busts (the jury is still out on Visentin, though).

Wouldn't surprise me if Fucale goes before the STL pick. There is a long history of goalies going slightly higher than ranked (Dipietro, Price, Leclaire, Blackburn, Finley, etc)

BUF has 2 picks before the STL pick, right? If so, I say they take Fuchale.

6. Calgary Flames – Elias Lindholm, C, Brynas
Theres no real reason other than it’d be a crime to not pick Elias Lindholm if he’s still available for the Flames to pick him.
He’s a creative and hardworking Swedish centre who has already had some comparisons o the likes of Henrik Zetterberg.
Lindholm should be a top line centre for any team in the future, he’s agressive, fantastic at both ends of the ice and has a serious eye for goal.
Quote:
25. Calgary Flames (Via St. Lous Blues) – Zachary Fucale, G, Halifax Mooseheads
Zachary Fucale has the talent to go almost anywhere in the first round but with goalies it’s all about which team needs him. With Mikka Kiprusoff ready to hang up his skates anyday now, then maybe the Flames should start working on his replacement in Zachary Fucale.
His poise in net is incredible and his numbers in the QMJHL just show the talent this kid possesses.
He had a .906% save percentage for the Halifax Mooseheads this year and appeared in 55 games so he’s used to a heavy workload and is set for a good future in net and he is easily the best goalie available this year.
Quote:
29. Calgary Flames (Via Pittsburgh Penguins) – J.T. Compher, C, US-NTDP
The Calgary Flames could trade their picks but if they’re in a re-build then keeping them all would be a great way to start.
Picking a guy like J.T. Compher would also be a good start. He;s a dynamic offensive threat with great vision and passing abilities.
He’s recently wrapped up the World Under 18 Junior Championships with the USA where he lead the team with 7 points on their way to a silver medal and looks like a good solid player for the future.

Ahhhhh. My brain is so torn between Lindholm and Monahan. Monahan has gained some momentum in the last week for me. But it's probably due to the fact the Lindholm is getting no media love lately. Monahan keeps coming up everywhere I look.

I'm wih you ...and it gets harder if a D goes 1-5 leaving Nichuskin available at #6 as well...at least for me, it does.

Some questionable logic in a lot of these mock drafts. For example some people don't seem to realize FLA has played Huberdeau at wing and he also played wing in junior and at the WJC. Unless the Oilers are BSing they have said they want MacKinnon, Barkov or Monahan. So why would they take Ristolainen over Monahan?

Some of these mock draft writers obviously aren't following things very closely and their opinion is worthless.

Sounds crazy. But if Nichushkin fell to #6, I take him without blinking an eye.

Same for Barkov. But I don't think the top five fall one spot.
