When I bought my house it had a light in the shed, wired with 14/2 interior cable, run across the deck, with a plug wired to the end plugged to an outdoor outlet. I unplugged that at 12:01 on possession day.

Mine had something similar, but at least the outlet it was plugged into was GFCI

Not mine, I'm pretty sure that outlet was double tapped at the breaker box.

Again: If the code says you need a permit to replace a light bulb, and the code cannot be overruled, how come homeowners are out there replacing light bulbs without a permit?

I've already answered that, feel free to read it again. While you're doing that open up your chequebook. I'll give ya 24 hours to post a receipt for your donation or you'll be a POS welcher. Code is code and treated as law.
And Topfiverecords it is the legal standard for electrical installs, whether it's enforced or not it is the law

Similar at mine. The overhead door on the detached garage was powered by an extension cord that ran through a hole in the wall, across the yard to a broken outdoor outlet. Gold standard.

This is how my #### garage door is powered. My place is all pieced together with scraps. No two screws in any particular item match.
It’s also impossible for any municipality to catch everything anyway. Or even have staff that know every code. Most don’t know half of the ones they’re supposed to anyway. It’s actually quite frightening.

The safety zone... Presumably a water spout spigot shouldn't be that close to power, either(can I get a ruling?) Redoing the siding this year, and will fix all of that!

What’s the white cover for? Looks like a central vac.

This is why I always laughed when realtor ads brag about finished basements. Holy ####, going back in time what I would pay for a house with an unfinished basement

There's your quote you dirty welcher. My points are all in the code book and once adopted its treated as law. You don't have #### and you're wrong and you know it.

Ya, central vac. Does that need spacing, too? Once I have the siding off, I can move all this stuff around and do it right. I have decent access inside to everything.

You need one of these: https://www.homedepot.ca/product/lev...ora/1000780391
And the receptacle must be protected by a GFCI.

Central vac should come in handy when your electrical fire starts.
Do you use it for clearing the leaves in the fall?

So every safety codes officer in Calgary is breaking code because they're not enforcing 2-004 such that light bulb replacements require a permit. Why haven't you ratted them out then? According to you they're breaking the law, it's illegal. If you know better, and you're really an engineer, you may be exposing yourself to liability in tort for not speaking up. Don't forget the very first rule in our Code of Ethics, fellow engineer...

It's not ideal, but code doesn't require any minimum separation between the spigot and the receptacle. You have to have the while-in-use cover for any outdoor receptacle within 2.5 m of grade and protection of a GFCI anyway, whether the receptacle is 'close' to the faucet or not, because it's exposed to weather.

I dont care for a damn thing you say until you pay up you rat. If you're an engineer who doesn't follow code, well that's horrifying to think of, especially with your poor understanding of it.

LOL. It's the exhaust port, not an outdoor vacuum port! I actually put that there, because the original was wye'd into the dryer exhaust port, which is also not code... unfortunately I didn't have a lot of space with the electrical, but I'll sort it out! Just started peeling siding yesterday, so spring jobs are already starting...
