Undiscovered Country was great but that moment that seals it for me is leaving SpaceDock and..."Captain regulations specify thrusters only while in SpaceDock"
And they pan to Uhura and her expression? Absolute. Gold.

I always have trouble ranking the original cast movies, because outside of V they were all really good movies. But UC holds a special place for me because I remember sniffling at the ending with Kirk's final log.
Its interesting the original plan was to bring Saavik back and have her act as the traitor. It would have certainly been a bit of a heart punch. Meyer's had reached out to Robin Curtis to do the role, but Roddenberry felt that Saavik was too beloved of a character to do it.
In the end Kim Catrell did a great job in that role. Her confession was a great speech. but it would have been a really hard turn.
There was a lot of controversy at the time over Spock using the mind meld to rip the truth out of Valeris' mind with people equating it to Spock raping her or at least torturing her. They tried to fix it in the book, but it was a shocking moment for Trek fans.

Lets be honest...TMP wasn't great. Visually? Very impressive for the time, but other than that?
I actually liked it, it didn't have the same camaraderie as the original series or the other movies. But I loved the V'ger story line, and Kirk being obsessed with getting the Enterprise back. And for the time, it was visually stunning.
And the end of it with the kirk giving the course of "Out there . . . that a way"

I remember people in the theatre were shocked by the change in the Klingons and the new languages, but it was such a cool sequence.
I also had a flashback, my Dad took me to McDonalds for a burger after words and I got the Star Trek TMP happy meal. You know a hamburger, small fries and drink, and it had trading cards, a sticker of the federation logo that you could stick to your shirt and a little wrist communicator toy iirc.
I was a little old for it, I was about 12, but man it was cool and at the time, I was still in the Star Wars thrall, but I loved TMP.

Watching Wrath of Khan right now, it's still one of my favourite Trek movies.
On the surface, it’s a simple story, but there’s a lot of subtle depth. It’s the little details that do it for me, like Khan’s book collection, all tied to themes of revenge and damnation, and the underlying themes of aging and usefulness.
I tell my friends this all the time. Before watching TWOK even if its the 20th time, you back to Netflix, pull up the original series and watch Space Seed. It still remains as one of the best episodes of the original series.
Just for the ending when Kahn was banished, you knew that he would be back.
