It would have to be more than Gaudreau.
Barzal is 4 years younger, has more team control, and plays the more important position. How would this trade help the Islanders? The Islanders look just fine at LW. Remove Barzal and they’ll need to go find themselves a new 1C. Chances of this happening are slim and none, I’d say.
Maybe you could get him for Monahan and Andersson..

What will happen is the Islanders will sign Barzal when the season starts and they can replace Boychuk's salary.

I think it would have to be painful for us.
Monahan + Gaudreau
Gives the isles one of the league's most dynamic duos over the last 5 seasons, still both young, and both locked in at good cap hits for 2 more seasons (3 on Mony.)
Barzal + Eberle
We might have to work Ryan or Hanifin into another trade.
The only other possibility I can think of is something around Gaudreau+Lucic+pick for Barzal and Ladd. Ladd has a worse contract than Lucic.

With Lee, Beaulivier, and Bellows already at LW, I don’t think the Islanders would want to add two more LW’s. makes no sense.

Monahan is a left wing now?

responding to Gaudreau Lucic and a pick for Barzal and Ladd. I guess I wasn't too clear about that.

I suggested this same trade a few pages ago. While i think it would be the huge shakeup many of us fans were hoping for I don’t see the Islanders doing it. My only thoughts are Lou is very old and set in his ways he could see this as a buy low option on Gaudreau/Monahan and bank that they will get back to being ppg and 30+ goal threats right away.
The deal makes sense for Calgary by adding 2 right hand shots and landing their coveted franchise center hoping that Barzal can improve his 200ft game and expand on his impressive offensive output so far.
Eberle gets to come home and adds a nice element in the top 9 and powerplay.

Don’t see the islanders needing Johnny. If they did decide to trade Barzal it would be centers around Mony going back the other way. I suck at trade proposals but my thinking with islanders in cap trouble would be Mony, plus one of zary or pellitier and a 1st. If a team wanted to offer sheet him it would take 4 1sts to have a chance to pry him away.

That makes a lot of sense, but at that price I would rather the team just stay the course and try to build themselves through the draft. To win in this league these days you need those entry level contracts to perform.

Have to overpay to acquire talent. Barzal > Monahan

Sign Hallsy and play em on the same line so those two can drive the Oilers mad 4 times a year!

My opinion about trading for Barzal is that Barzal is way too valuable for the Flames to be able to trade for him. He is a young, elite centre, the kind of player teams do not trade.

Oh yeah, he's not going anywhere. The Islanders will do whatever it takes to keep him and it sounds like with LTIR they won't have to do much. Nonsense to think there's any trade route to getting him. He's what we wish Monahan was and it would cost Monahan plus another star Flames player IF they even wanted to entertain the idea, which they likely wouldn't.

Vegas' forward depth isn't looking so hot after losing Stastny and if Patches is next.

Unless they’re moving Pacioretty to free up space to bring in Stamkos.

It is crazy how great and how poorly the Golden Knights have been managed in 3 years.

I think they'd be selling high on Max Pacioretty if they traded him right now. He had a great season, but the two seasons prior to that were pretty poor.
He's 32 and becomes a free agent in 2023. Not terrible term, but not valuable either, especially with a flat cap.
