Granted it normally snows more in the NW than the SW, but I shovelled about an hour ago and despite it still falling, it's melting as it comes now. Still clear here
Either way, I'd rather shovel 5 cm 3 times vs 15 cm once, if it's this heavy wet stuff

It's nucking futs. Took me three hours to get here today. Highway was closed going west from Calgary because a fricken semi hauling goats flew off the road along with a bunch of other cars and another semi. Then they had to close it going eastbound to yank the cars out. There is so much snow here it's hard to believe...haven't seen it like this in forever.

That was the weird thing, the roads weren't bad, but once a few trucks hit the ditch and everything stopped moving it was game over. Semis couldn't get traction to restart, so they were blocking things here, there and everywhere.
I'm sure the roads will be fine tomorrow. It's not that cold (right now, anyway). Only caveat to that would be if the wind made for drifts or ice or something.

It's not the depth, it's how you use it.
It dropped from +9C to -4C (probably like -15C with windchill the way it was blowing) in the span of 90 minutes on my car's thermometer. An hour later it was a white out blizzard (only intense for an hour or so).
It's not really a notable issue now, but kinda nuts to go from T-shirt weather to a scene from Fargo so fast.

I saw a video that looked like one of those midwestern state pile ups that go viral or one from the 405 in slick conditions.
Cars everywhere. And a loaded car-carrier also involved.

If anyone is headed out to Canmore or Banff this morning, I’d appreciate an update on how Highway 1 is looking today! We have to head to Banff today and I’m just trying to plan how many extra hours it will take…haha. We got a solid 10 cms of snow out in the Foothills.

So, can we drive out there and scoop up a goat, or what?

Just need a truck carrying curry powder to wreck and we're in business.

Yikes. This is my absolutely worst nightmare, to get stranded in the cold, because I'm afraid of cold.

This is why it's important to dress for the weather, or at least bring clothes that allow you to do so. And this event was on a major highway in a populated area, it's absolutely crucial to be prepared when driving in remote areas.
That's my PSA, I'm not singling you out Girly.

Highway 22X between Priddis and Bragg Creek was in rough shape. Highway 1 was fine until Stoney Nakoda and then it was fully covered with packed down snow and it was very slick all the way to the Banff pass buying stations.

I say this to my teenaged kids all the time when they go out in -15c wearing a hoodie.
“But we’ll be in a car.”
Until you’re not.
