It did occur to me that the unforseen consequence of losing this war for Putin will be a massive drop in support for Russia in all of the 'independent' regions in both the Ukraine and around Russia, it seems likely that Belorussia and Chechnya will see massive upheavals in the next few year, the bribery money from Moscow is going to be turned off as Putin won't have the money to buy this support, same applies to the Donbass, no Russian money, food or weapons might leave them thinking a western supported relatively rich (as rebuilding brings prosperity) Ukraine is a much better bet
Donbass likely hates Russia now. Russia encouraged the uprising in 2014 that led to nothing but destruction and local war for 8 years. Then Russia moved in to drive Ukranians away for good, only to fall on its face and bring even more destruction and war. Now Russia seems destined for decades of economic downturn at very best. If Russia annex Donbass, they will probably rebel to come back to Ukraine. Actually, their militia may switch sides about now.

I also hope the brave Russian POWs are being treated above and beyond the Geneva convention rules, treated as guests with dignity and given anything they need.
I hope they've been given a cell phone and told to phone home.
Ah yes the old "heart attack", yup I was making the quotes with my finger. Used often in the old Soviet System. This politburo member forced to retire due to a heart attack, or ill health or whatever when you upset the chairman. Almost used as often as the "Helicopter crash" in Iraq under Hussein.
Instead in Soviet Union and are put in charge of the party apparatus in Northern Siberia while taking inventory of the trees.

Actually I read about the execution method for the Soviet Union. You'd be called up to the warden's office and given a pen and piece of paper to write to the Premier asking for clemency. Once you were done you were taken back to your cell and on the way the executioner would jump out of a cell behind you and shoot you in the back of the head. It was considered a merciful way to kill someone. Give them hope, relax them, and then the surprise blammo

I am the very model of a Russian Major-General
Communications with my squads are highly interceptable.
Coordinates of my position thus triangulatable.
Ukrainian artillery will soon fire an explosive shell.
The odds of my survival are much less than astronomical
If war were not a tragedy this would be rather comical.
Because I am important my demise will make the worldly news.
Zelensky will improve morale recounting it in interviews.
Looks like mud season has started early in Ukraine. Highs are forecast to be in the mid teens with showers during the next week over most of the country. Probably the real reason the Russians gave up on continuing their attacks on the northern cities, all their remaining equipment would get bogged down and abandoned if they continued to press. Global warming FTW?
Who would have thought Greece and Turkey would bury the hatchet and band together on a daring mission to save the people of Mariupol. I am so thankful Macron is leading the EU right now.
Common side effect of being poisoned or being run over by a tank.
I am going to go full tinfoil hat conspiracy theory in a way, something I never really do, and say the poor bastard had an actual heart attack.
The Defense Minister is nearly 67, reached an age that the majority of Russian men don't achieve due to health and alcohol related issues.
Being in his position and having to deal with a war of this scale, with this level of strategic maneuvering, the level of general losses in both men, equipment and strategic importance plus having to deal with a mad men like Putin?
The stress alone on having to update Putin on a regular basis and disappoint him with what is actually happening? These 4 weeks must have added 400 weeks to his health.

All things being equal I'd like to see how much polonium is left over
