Harrow was my favorite person on the show. Hated how quick he was taken out. The actual scene played beautifully, and the character arc had played itself out, but the way it ended felt rushed.
After the way season 3 ended, Harrow was a stone cold killer that could take out an entire house of men. However, a quick stray bullet takes him out? The guy had his face blown off and survived.
Just would have liked a bit more time around my favorite character.

You didn't see the whole series of scenes where his mind was pretty much shattered while he was living with his sister and he couldn't even shoot a dying dog? He mustered the strength to kill one last person to ensure the survival of Tommy, and it resulted in the death of an innocent.
I loved the Richard character, but that ending was perfect for him. Finally at peace.

I did. And like I said I understand that the arc had come to the end. I guess the scene itself just felt rushed to me. My nitpick is maybe more how the scene played out and that it just felt kind of disjointed.

Yah, the whole season was building up to Harrow's demise as they focused on him moving away from the kind of person he used to be and building up to finally getting the family he's always wanted, only to lose it all.
Chalky's reaction when Richard shot his daughter was so good.
Eli's fight with Knox was just as good as Chalky vs. Purnsley, if not better. You could really feel Eli's frustration throughout the whole season come out in the scene. Eli's been great this season and plays the frustrated little brother in the shadow really well. Really stoked about Eli joining Capone's crew!
Eli's son has been great the last half of the season and I'm looking forward to how they develop his character.
Capone's story should also really accelerate next season with Torrio handing the reigns over.
Crap! How long until next season?!!

The end of this show should be nigh. I think there are too many double and triple crosses used to keep the plot moving. All the important side characters from the beginning of the show are gone (James, Angela, Harrow, Dune, Eddie, Torrio etc). I don't know how they can keep the show going after S4.

Capone, Luciano, Lansky, Rothstein, Van Alden, Masseria, Narcisse, Hoover. Plenty of characters to keep the show going. Plus they have 17 more years until Nucky goes to jail, if they decide to go down that route.

Agreed that too many characters have double crossed Nucky. His brother (twice), Lansky (three times?), Luciano (three times), Capone, Mickey Doyle etc... It's getting old
Curious to see where they take Nucky's character. New York and Chicago will be awesome but I'm worried about Atlantic City

saved all this season and watched it over the last 10 days, I think that's how I am going to watch Boardwalk from now on, it's just more enjoyable
the sum of the episodes is better than they are as individual hours, in a very positive way
this season was probably my favorite

Looks like S5 may be the last and if not, then S6 should be the finale.
http://www.thewrap.com/boardwalk-emp...ending-series/
This show is about Nucky and S4 pitching Narcisse against Chalky is why I didn't like it all that much. In the Boardwalk universe nobody dies well, they don't get to keep the money and the girl at the end. Essentially, the show is about the rise and fall of many of the characters and the reason I'll come back and watch S5 is to find out how Nucky ends.
Tampa with Sally would be a nice ending for Nucky but that won't be in line with Boardwalk's moral standard. And I don't think death is what the audience are really looking for Nucky so it'll be interesting to find out where the show is going to take us in S5. But I do hope S5 is the end of it.

They damn well better do a spinoff series for Capone then, Stephen Graham does such an awesome job with the character it would be criminal not to let him portray Capone in his prime

Totally agree. As much as I love The Untouchables, it didn't treat Capone properly. As a matter of fact nothing really has, even movies like Scarface that emulated Capone didn't do it for me. Al Capone deserves a series of his own; quite frankly I am surprised it hasn't been done already. I just guess that it's too costly to built and the sets and other designs. It's got to be a whole lot cheaper to produce shows set today.

Problem with a Capone spinoff is that we already have BE, would people be interested in another gangster series in basically the same era?
BE costs a lot of money to make comparing to Breaking Bad which costs only $1M per episode I heard. From a financial point of view, the accountants might have a hard time approving another gangster series.

Awesome ending to a great season that really picked up the pace halfway through.
Sad to see Richard go, but his ending was perfect. I will miss him as he's also my favorite character on the show.

Boardwalk Empire is ending though, either next year or the year after. The Capone spinoff wouldn't start until after then if it did happen

I found finale to be fairly disappointing. As others have pointed out, the whole "double-cross" plot device has been played out far too many times. Like the Sopranos, Boardwalk is guilty of rehashing the same plot arc every season. Hopefully they can get away from this next season.

In the end, I would like to see the show wrap up the arcs of Sally, Van Alden, Margaret, Gillian, Eli, Chalky and Narcisse; and send Nucky the proper fairwell. That should give the writers enough to work with for one more season without resorting to treading old grounds.

I'm a bit surprised with some of the posts. While it definitely strays from history and is a dramatic retelling, it is rooted in history. Double dealings were the norm and happy endings weren't. Heck, we just saw one of the more happy 'endings' to a mob boss of that era with Johnny the Fox. All it took was being left for dead after an assassination attempt. Want to be bosses like Jimmy never just walked away after failing. I do suppose the Eli thing has gotten old though.
As for the show possibly ending, I'm a bit surprised. There's just so much story left to tell. The biggest event in the criminal underworld takes place in Atlantic City in a couple years with the formation of The National Crime Syndicate. No doubt they will end the show with the Atlantic City Conference now but there should have been no problem filling a whole season with it's creation.
From there you have the formation of The Commission, the end to the Mustache Petes and the rise of Luciano. As awesome as Capone's story is, if the show ends in 1929 Capone's arc is coming to an end (we should get to see the Moran vs Capone and St. Valentine's Day Massacre). It's Luciano, Lansky and Siegel that I want to see a spinoff of. The Castellammarese war, the formation of the Five Families, the war efforts, all the way to Vegas. No shortage of story for those guys.
