I'd be curious to know if you can draft a player and, return them to junior, and hold their rights for a couple of seasons before signing them to an entry level contract.

In the past, I usually found that anything after a 2nd or 3rd round pick was pretty much useless because I never signed my late picks. They were never worth using a roster spot on and they would just end up as UFA's.

You need to do a better job at scouting then!

The monthly playoffs are a good idea imo with the EASHL. Gives you something to work for. I'm looking forward to trying this for the online dynasty thing.

"...Be a GM mode improves with the addition of restricted and unrestricted free agency. Like the real NHL, you can sign younger players to slotted offer sheets or try to poach young superstars at the cost of losing draft picks. EA Canada has worked to improve the trade logic to limit the movement of star players and added five-player-per-team trades. The devs also implemented fixes to make sure good players don't unrealistically sit in free agency too long. Expect a lot more player movement at the minor league level, and like the real NHL, don't expect cap conscious teams to move a lot of first-liners unless they are pending unrestricted free agents."
What does that bolded part mean?

Right now, the max you can do is 3 players (or picks) for 3 players (or picks), so that is moving to 5.

And I'm way behind the times I'm sure, but I didn't know the release date for this game was September 7th. I expected later in the month!

It seems to get earlier every year.

Demo should be out overnight. Interested to see if you have to have a Gold (Xbox) account just to get it.

Went to download Mafia II demo and it requires Gold. Lame.

It's there now. I couldn't see it in the new arrivals section or anything, but if you browse for it, it's available.

Looks like more of the same besides the new modes. Think I will wait until next year. (Pending trying the demo of course)

Someone in the thread where I found the video mentioned that there is a menu screen for online be a GM.

No confirmation, but interesting. This apparently also has nothing to do with the Be A GM announcement that is still to come.

The thing to keep in mind watching that video is that we're watching someone adjust to a brand new play style. From what I've read from people playing it now, the passing, hitting and skating are 'different' but feel more comfortable.

The hits and passes don't happen the same way as before because they aren't animation based. This will affect everyone's timing and that will show through in the game play footage.

I like what I have heard about the feel of the game thus far. People seem to think it is far more realistic, and I have read numerous comments about the improved teammate and opposition AI. Dumping pucks in for line changes, trying to beat the defender one on one, or one on two with a deke.

Other things that I found interesting from raeding is the protect the puck feature and the physics. Apparently the puck protect is no longer just the 'stick your arm out and lean', you actually skate. Someone posted that they were doing this with James van Riemsdyk and Patrick Sharp came in to hit him, but took the worst of it because JVR was leaning into him.

Small things that for me, should vastly improve the game play.

I'll be buying it, no doubt about it. It is only $70 and the amount that I play it for the year makes it well worth the money. Heck, going to a two hour movie with popcorn runs you over 20 dollars easily.

I enjoyed some of the hitting animation and I am looking forward to the new physics engine.
