That's cuz they're all weathers, not all seasons.

Most, if not all, All seasons aren't winter rated (the lack of a snowflake on the tire)

Whereas most, if not all, all weathers are rated for winter use.

It's in the compound they use to make the tire. If you buy cheap ass winter tires, a lot of them are just all season tires with a layer of compound used in winter tires and maybe a "winter" tread pattern. Once that initial layer of compound is gone, all you're left with is an all season tire.

Changing your offset by 10 mm is usually not a big deal. Prefer the look of lower offset wheels (more flush with the body of the car) so I'd go with 35mm if it was me. 40mm would be just fine too.

Hubcentric/Lugcentric:

Usually when you put on after market wheels they have a larger bore size for the hub so they can fit all cars with the use of hub rings. Not using hub rings isn't a big deal, you just may end up with vibrations.

Your Corolla likely has a centre bore of 54.1 mm and the Neon 57.1mm. So you could try without hub rings, but if you got vibration, or are anal, you could get some. They're very inexpensive.

For a truck you can't go wrong with Goodyear Wranglers. Every year no problems.

Kick them. What I do (this is not advice just information, you can't sue me if you die or get hurt or damage your car):
  • First I losen the lugs
  • Then I jack up the car
  • I remove the lugs
  • put on your sh*tkickers, sit on your ass and give a flat, footed kick into the rim edge. do a bunch of kics on one side, then on another. you're trying to twist teh wheel off the hub

This has worked every time for me with rusted-on rims.

Terrible suggestion, as is the norm with your nenshi-bashing illogical posts. Wranglers are an ALL-SEASON tire and don't hold a candle to the ice grip of a true winter tire.

Those tires are TERRIBLY rated ALL SEASON tires:



They get BAD FOR AN ALLSEASON ratings on snow/ice. 37 out of 57th? That's a fail.

Haha. I did that with two buddies for a good 15 minutes until we gave up and used a mallet. No budge. Perhaps I need a bigger mallet haha.

EDIT: They probably rusted on tight because they've probably been on there for a few years. I doubt the mechanic rotated our tires...

I find kicking way better than a mallet. Plus with a good rubber soled boot you will cushion your foot and not damage the rim.

They will be better, I can't tell you how much - decently better but not night and day, Id' think?

From the owner of a big tire store owner who posted in that thread:

These are all very different tires. Xi2 is softer compund and will give you the best winter performance, but softer tread means more tread squirm and quicker wear. Michelin claims that this tire lasts longer, b ut when compared to the LM25 or WRG2 they will wear quicker. Blizzak LM25 is a performance winter that will not give you as good deep snow and ice performance, but will give you reasonable and better high-speed stability, handling and wear. WRG2 is a compromise and will give you decent in all catagories, but not excellent.


What you need to understand is the ice grip you're after is mainly a function of the softness of the rubber, which gives it the ability to remain sticky in the cold. By virtue of their use, rubber that is designed to be sticky at -30C will be goo at +30C, so you'll never get great winter performance out of an all season, unless you like watching your tread melt off in July.

My 2 cents: If you're buying new tires for the car cause the stock all seasons are wearing down, and it' appears to be a lease, then sure go with the WGR2.

I'm looking for some good all-weather (snowpeak rated) tires for my truck. I was thinking of the Goodyear Silent Armours but they are pretty pricey. Is there anything comparable to their quality?

Since this thread often gets bumped in time for the winter season I might as well do it.

I need winter tires for a 2008 VW Golf City, any recommendations?

Just had the wife's van in at fountain tire for new shoes...

Good Year Ultra Grip Ice WRT

4 for 3 sale cost me 700 bones installed...

I kept the all seasons for next spring when the lease is up...

Replaced my Kumho KW17 this year after 5 years of use. Last year was a little hairy as I got stuck coming out of my driveway a few times. I went to Costco a couple weeks ago to beat the rush. Got myself a set of Bridgestone Blizzacks ws70s. Can't wait to try them out for the season. I'm expecting better performance than the Kumhos.

Go ahead and put them on. I've run mine throughout summer and they still last. An extra week will have a negligible effect on the treadwear, but will give you the ease of mine not having to put up with the mass panic.
