I didn't know that. I'll definitely be subbing those out of my routine.

The only machine that you will be using on a crossfit program (if that's what you're interested in at all) is a rowing machine.

Anyways, has anyone here tried Tabata Training? I'm trying to improve my cardio and boost my endurance for soccer and I read that this is pretty intense but effective. How does it compare to HIIT?
|
As long as you don't make it a focal point of your workout program, the leg press is fine. Even if it is an unnatural movement. Which is why its stupid. Why not do jump squats instead though?
Tabata is awesome. IMO, its harder than HIIT, but I don't know about which is more effective.

New KFC sandwich replaces bread with fried chicken:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/0..._n_266848.html
In the midst of a staggering obesity epidemic in the US, KFC has doubled down on a high-calorie menu choice. KFC is now offering a "sandwich" which consists of bacon, two kinds of cheeses and sauce between two pieces of fried chicken. That's right, fried chicken as a bun instead of bread.

From what I've read, it's more effective but you shouldn't be doing it more than a few times a month because of how intense it is.

My issues with crossfit are that it seems to require a lot of equipment that I either can't afford, isn't supplied by my gym, and/or I don't have room for in my apartment.

If I remember correctly the leg press (being a machine), will also only work the larger muscles (may also not be full range of motion which is important) and not any core or stabilizing muscles, leading to muscle imbalances which will usually lead to injuries as well.

Yeah, tabatas are great. Crossfit uses tabatas as well. Why limit yourself to one though? Use them both. It is good to cycle your training to avoid/break through plateaus...typically once you are out of the novice phase though...

And it costs around $200/month to sign up at the Crossfit Calgary gym.

Well, you obviously won't work the stabilizer muscles, nor will you get any kind of core movement, considering the machine does that for you.
I think Coach loves to bash the leg press so much because of all the people that think they're strong because they can leg press 2,000#.

I'd imagine tha the saturated fat would be quite high in that... Don't know though. I've seen a lot of the new ads for KFC advertising their grilled chicked. seems cheap too, couldn't be that bad?

Isn't this a criticism against most machines? I was a little worried when I started my current routine because the first day was heavy on machines but I'm okay with it now because the second and third days are mostly barbells and dumbells.

Hi Mark, is there scientific evidence supporting what you’ve found in your experience? If there is could you send me a few links? I would be interested to look into this further.
Thanks,

Yeah, I wish I could get all the equipment too. You can do it pretty effectively with just a weight set and pullup bar. That is what I started with. Sure you have to sub different exercises sometimes, but it is still a great workout.
