hmm. I wonder why that is? Are the World Cup and Euro just too big and they don't want company competing for the biggest/best tournament in the world or maybe they just don't want those pesky British soccer houligans.

English Premier league started today. A lot to do with their clubs releasing them for the tournament and the timing of the Olympics. Most other European leagues will be in pre-season preparations.
On another note I've got an old classmate from University racing for GB tonight in the womens 8s finals.
So .... ermmmmm...... Go GB (for 1 race only).

Damn, that Usain Bolt sure is fast!! The guy could have easily break 9.50 if he didn't coast after the 80m. Asafa Powell did not get the silver medal at all. I was thinking at the beginning it is going to be Jamaica, Jamaica and somebody else at the finish.

Congrats to all 5 Canadian medallists so far. I only got to watch 3/4 performances live but caught the 4th on replay. Nice work Calder, Frandsen, Huynh, Verbeek and Cochrane!!! We're proud of you!

Phelps just won his 8th gold medal! Wow. He swam the 3rd leg and gave the US the win single handedly. They were down after 2 legs and then Phelps took over and they were in the lead after the 3rd leg.

Well, excellent performances to get some medals for Canada. You can't be as frustrated and critical as I was earlier and not come on to congratulate and eat some crow as well. Definitely makes it a little easier to stomach earlier results.

Just scanning the thread, I don't think it's been mentioned here yet and I've got CBC on and I haven't seen them mention it (they could have mentioned it while I was cowering from their fearsome phelpsrection) in the time I've been watching, but we've got another wrestler going for bronze -- Martine Dugrenier. I think she goes at 12:30 Calgary time.

Watching Bolt in the 100 makes me wonder - at one point will it just be physically impossible to run the 100 faster? The record has been broken time and time again but surely at some point there must be a limit?

Field hockey highlights! Now that's a sport I wish would get more coverage - fantastic to watch.

I've wondered that for a long time myself. I think at some point they will start timing with devices approaching perfection and we will see times in thousandths or even ten thousandths of a second, allowing records to continue to fall.

the thing i find about the 100m is if bolt just gave it all the way, he kind of celebrated with 20m to go.. and still won and got the WR... just insane

The thing that impressed me about Bolt was the fact he makes it look so easy, it looked like he started a light jog with 10-15 meters left in the race and still destroyed the WR. I makes you wonder if he would have broke the 9.59 mark if he kept going at that pace.

I have to disagree, unless I am not understanding the sport right but I found it very slow. Could it be the fact Canada vs GB? Is there better teams to watch? I just found it to be exactly like soccer except with even less offense.
Help me out...should I give it another try with some other teams playing? What match should I watch out for?

CNN is reporting he had a shoe untied as well.
Insanity.

To those who want to help Canadian athletes compete, here is a site:
http://www.seeyouinbeijing.com/
Grants directly to the athletes, low admin costs, a great program I've been donating to for years.

I have no idea who the teams are too watch - far from an expert. I have enjoyed it when I have had a chance to watch it - Sportsnet had a game on a few weekends back in the wee mornings of a Sunday.
I think it's a mistake to expect it to be a like regular hockey - though I don't really find it like soccer either.
