Great player. Kansas City should be proud.
Yeah, TG has been a good one for the Chiefs, although he's had the benefit of being the only real good receiving threat in that offence for a lot of years. Than again...he's also had to deal with teams planning around stopping him to keep the Chiefs from moving the ball too.

I remember back in the early 90's it was looking like the TE would be phased out of football for awhile. But than Shannon Sharpe became a big time weapon and than the Chiefs got Gonzalez, and a few other guys stepped up and now it's an important position in the game again. I wonder if Antonio Gates will be claiming that record for himself one day in the near future? Although TG still has a lot of football left in him and Herm and Solari are starting to realize that if the Chiefs want to do anything on offence they need to make him a big part of their game plan. But I'm guessing he'd trade that record for one of Sharpes SuperBowl Rings, which is something TG likely doesn't get if he stays a life long Chief unfortunately.

LOL. Bill Simmons The Sports Guy on ESPN has a great read that had me laughing out loud this week. Bill is as full of crap as anyone, but I think ne nails it on this one. The Pats are going to beat the snot out of everyone this year just because they can. It's a big "Eff you" to everyone who's been hacking on them this year.

The Miami Dolphins have traded WR Chris Chambers to the San Diego Chargers for what is believed to be a 2nd round pick. Smart move by the Chargers, who now have another legitimate proven receiving option to go along with Gates.

I guess the NFL trade deadline is likely coming up here. Not that anything ever happens, but their trade deadline is usually about 6 weeks into the season which would make it this week. I wonder if there will be much else in terms of moves this week?

Doubtful... the NFL trade deadline is boring (significant trades in general are few and far between in the NFL). Chambers to SD is big and Bennett to Tampa is a good move (how is Tampa winning?).

There has been rumors that Pennington is available, but it might be too late to move him this season.

With Chambers out, and Trent Green a tap away from becoming a drooling mess, I think 0-16 is even more realistic.

Very good move - they needed an impact WR. I'm still in awe of how much Gates catches with him being the only real threat in the passing game.

Well the Chargers do have a good line and LT is also a threat out of the backfield to catch passes as well. The KC Chiefs used to have the best offence in the NFL or one of the top offences with a similar (less talented skill position personel) combination to what the Chargers currently have. Still probably the type of move the Chargers need to make in order to pull away from that second tier grouping in the AFC where they are right now.

That was a great moment. TG pointing at the goal post after the TD catch and then doing his Trade Mark dunk. Great moment for the Chiefs and Chiefs fans everywhere. But TG should be remembered for a lot more than his receiving abilities. He is probably one of the best blocking TE's in the game. Carl Peterson and the Hunt family did a great thing in ensuring that TG would finish his carrer in KC this off season.

Chambers traded to San Diego for a second round pick.

I like the trade from a dolphins stand point because it looks like there rebuilding finally!!!!. Instead of patchign stuff up temporaly. Chambers is a good receiver makes amazing catches but drops easy ones as well. Maybe with a real QB he will start to shine finally!!!

Great. Could someone please just trade an unhappy stud MLB to the Broncos so we can fix our weakness too?

The Chargers are one of the worst run organizations in the league, but that is a fine move.

Bah. Vincent Jackson isn't a household name, but he's a pretty good young WR and definitely a threat...but yeah, they were/are weak on the outside.

Man, I was listening to Between the Lines with Kevin Kietzman on the way home from work today. The fans up in KC just hate LJ, and rightfully so. I guess he took ANOTHER unsportsmanlike penalty on Sunday for spiking the ball after a play. Being a big baby. Kietzman said there has never been a less significant starting player in Chiefs history (and he's talking about off the field of course). Nobody likes him. His teammates evidently don't like him. Fans hate him. I can see he and Herm coming to blows (figuratively) at some point. Priest is ready by the way...that's why Bennett is gone to Tampa.

Maybe they should get Al Wilson on the horn. Did he ever end up anywhere?

Nope, I don't think he's cleared to play.

No doubt in my mind his absence is a huge problem, if not for his play for his leadership. He was the heart and soul of that defense.

Same could be said for Rod Smith on the other side of the ball.

If I was the Dolphins GM. I'd trade you Zach Thomas for a first round pick!!!! I love this guy, but this team needs to do a complete fire sale.

Hes still a stud and has 3 - 5 years left.

In Jason Whitlocks 10 truths about the NFL last week he suggested that teams would be better served to trade or let their running backs go who come off rookie contracts and go back to the draft to find another guy who's younger and cheaper. Sort of like what the Colts did with Edgerren James. Heck the Chiefs even did that by accident when they were basically forced to replace Priest Holmes with Johnson. 90% of the time I think that actually would be a good move, only occasionally (LT or Walter Payton, or Barry Sanders would that bite you in the arse). Build a good line and most NFL teams can find a back who can rack up yardage behind that line. Let someone else pay the 28 year old guy who's got a lot of mileage on his body for the work he's done.

Im actually surprised that the Dolphins havent or havent been able to find a suitable trading partner for their rebuilding effort. Thomas, Chambers and Taylor were on my suspected trade list but I thought Chambers would be the last to go.

Taylor could fetch them a pretty package of picks (1st and 4th) which could be used to address the QB position and start rebuilding that defense. Thomas might be good for a 3rd rounder because of his age and his health. Chambers was a good trade for both teams.

I woudn't say he spiked the ball. Just tossed it aside, which is still against the new rules. The first time he did it. Jason Whitlock applauded him for showing his disatisfaction with Solari's play calling. Now he is a spoiled jerk. Whats a guy to do?

Shanahan hasn't paid a running back past the first contract since Terrell Davis (Broncos ring of fame, NFL HOF candidate). I think that's actually an outstanding plan...if you can make sure you have at least two guys capable of being an every down back each year and have an offensive line capable of supporting a running game.

It's worked for the Broncos. Can't say running the ball has been a problem for them for at least a dozen seasons.

That O-line has been coached very well and the scheme Denver runs really allows for Shanahan to plug in almost anyone and have success. That Bailey for Portis trade might be the best example of Shanahan having faith in the line and the system, rather than a specific back.

Other than LT, I dont think any running back is worth throwing the checkbook at... but I might have said the same about Alexander/Holmes in the previous few seasons.
