New Decemberists released a week early on iTunes and it is brilliant!! and those that enjoy a higher viscosity of rock, Mastodon's latest is now streaming on their myspace page with the cd to follow on the 24th. Mastodon is also playing MacHall on April 24th.
Modest Mouse will be releasing their new 8-song EP No One’s First and You’re Next in early August. In the months leading up to that they will be releasing four 7" Singles.
So normally I am extremely skeptical of re-releases, but if you are/were a fan of Pearl Jam's Ten, the Legacy Edition with the new Brendan O'Brien mixes is very much a worthwhile upgrade.
I'm working my way through a side by side listen with the old recording, and the amount of detail in the instruments the new mixes brings out is quite unexpected. My normal experience with re-releases sporting new mixes is more compression, but there's texture here I didn't pick up on before.
Also, at $16 for 32 tracks on iTunes, its not a bad bargain either.

I've checked out some new bands from this thread and have come to believe one thing, namely, I've got a much different taste in music than most of you. Very eclectic tastes you all have, rock on.
This came out last month, but I didn't want to to fly under the radar for any Hip Hop fans out there. The Chicharones EP Swine Country. If you're into hip hop at all, definitely check it out.
the next Dave Matthews Band studio album, scheduled for release on June 2, 2009, will be titled Big Whiskey and the Groogrux King.

Alice In Chains, untitled at the moment, summer 2009.
I can't wait.

White Lies - To Lose My Life released in January is fantastic.
Am I the only one?
No, you certainly aren't the only one, I completely agree with you. There are definitely some very good lesser hyped acts coming out of Britain these days. One of my current favourites has to be Frank Turner, a former punk rock front man who transitioned into a solo singer songwriter career, which in my opinion he is well suited for.
I would also just like to say thank you to everyone else in this thread, I read back through it every once in a while and check out anything that pops out to me. I have found some very good new music thanks to the recommendations provided in this thread.
I'm excited for Street Sweeper...Tom Morello and Boots Riley...they're playing on the NINlJA tour. It's supposed to be coming out sometime in 2009. Hopefully sooner rather than later.
Phoenix has a cd due out on May 25, 2009 "Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix" This is one of my favorites right now http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSLbW1S5gHA Good work out tune!
Following in the footsteps of Trent Reznor's Ghosts I-IV, former NIN drummer Josh Freese, has released his album in a variety of formats.
Most interestingly is that he has 11 different Deluxe Editions. From $7 for just a digital download to a $75,000 DE that includes:
Quote:
-Signed CD/DVD and digital download.
-T-shirt**
-Come out on tour with me for a few days.
-I write, record and market a 5 song EP about you and your life story.
-Take home any of my drumsets (only one but you can pick which one)
-*Take shrooms and cruise Hollywood in Danny from TOOL's Lamborgini OR we play "quarters" and then hop on the Ouija board for a while.
-If you have a band, I'll join it for a month....play shows, record a CD together, have a swim party, etc.... or none of the above. We could also just sit in yer basement and jam old Van Halen. OR
If you don't have a band I'll be your personal assistant for a month (4 day work weeks....10 am to 5 pm) and then we take a limo down to Tijuana and I'll show you how it's done (what that means I can't legally get into here, right this minute). If you don't live in LA but are in the USA I will come to you and be your personal assistant/cabana boy for 2 weeks.
-Take a Flying Trapeze lesson together in the San Fernando Valley and then Robin from NIN and his wife make us raw lasagna.
The $50 version, which isn't limited to a certain number of copies, includes a 5 minute phone call from Josh himself, where you can ask him anything you want.
Pretty innovative stuff. Hopefully more artists will follow suit. Obviously it won't work for HUGE artists, but for semi-popular bands this is a great idea.
BTW, I should add that this isn't BS.

Reason: Added emphasis to awesomeness of the 75000 DE

I just read about Jill Sobule doing something similar: you can get different packages where she records an answering machine message for you, or does a concert in your living room, or you can sing a duet on her album.
