This has more to do with Reschny playing on the island and having a limited supporting cast in the first half of the year. By January, he was firmly slotted in the back half of the draft, maybe the second round, and only able to move up so much becuase of perceived knocks.. Teams were by then locked into their players.

Yes, these comps are probably not likely (ceiling is being used) but he is a special prospect.

Reschny wasn't as highly regarded in the first half of the 2024-25 season, as he was in the second half- where he put up 51 points in the final 30 games. In the 2025 WHL playoffs (he scored 25 points in just 11 games), he was second only to Gavin McKenna in ppg (and Reschny had less talent around him), and his 2.27 ppg were 6th-best all-time for a player under the age of 18 in the WHL. He skyrocketed up the draft charts in the second half.

Since the turn of the century, only Bedard (2.86) and McKenna (2.38) have put up a better ppg in a single playoff season than Reschny's 2.27 ppg. If Reschny gets his skating up to par, there's no telling what his ceiling is- Langkow is a fair comparison, but Reschny could be even better. The sky is the limit for this kid.

I wonder if an NHL comparable for his ceiling could be a player like Nick Suzuki. Not a huge centre. Some consider him a really high end 2nd line centre more than a 1st line centre despite his numbers looking really solid. Great defensive skills. I think his skating used to be an area for improvement when he was drafted too and now I think it’s a strength.

Sebastian Aho is probably a good comparable.

But I will continue to hope for a Trottier/Toews type of home run.

No a huge centre, not especially good skater, great passer, high hockey IQ, above 2 PPG in junior.

So his ceiling is Gretzky.

Correct, ceiling is Wayne Gretzky, floor is Keith Gretzky.

Technically Gretzky is the great one, not the greatest one. so his ceiling might be higher than Gretzky.

If Reschny was an Oilers prospect they would see 700 goals and 1400 points in his future. Robbie Schremp style.

1400 points would be between Keith and Wayne

Reschny is going to be a gooder. I didnt think the gap between him and some of the other guys at the top was much at all if any.

Size was the biggest difference in most scouts eyes, IMO.

I think many of you are selling Reschny short. He has the tools to be a 1C.

He is 5'11, so ultimately its not a height factor.

If he is using this college year to maximize his gains in his quads/legs, in a crosby or stand louis like way, that is his best possible shot of reaching 1c in the NHL.

Plus, he is farmboy strong, and doesn't lose many 50/50 battles.

Playing top line C in College all season in his d+1 is going to be massive for his development. Best case scenario for us.
