Wouldn’t mind a Chabot / 7th OA for Markstrom / ? kind of deal. Or if 7th OA isn’t available is anyone opposed to Chabot for Markstrom straight up?
|
Markstrom + Coleman + ?. Personally I wouldn't mind a straight up deal too.

Markstrom plus Coleman for? 7 OA and Chabot?
I think we should get more for taking back a contract like that.

Change it to Chychrun and you have a deal. Chabot is pretty much unmovable at that dollar figure until the last year of his contract. Could probably flip Chychrun to the Leafs for a decent return this offseason. Chabot has almost no value at that dollar figure, not sure why the Flames would have any interest in taking him on. He is a 40-50 point dman (pro-rated for an entire year), the Flames already have that guy in Rasmus and he makes a heck of a lot less.

We went from Mercer or bust to #10 or bust I love it. If we don’t get at least one of those two things I’ll probably kill myself on live tv. Markstrom to the Devils is a guaranteed lock

I have zero interest in Chabot, I was just asking a questions.
I am surprised that people would actually want him, like you said the contract is ugly and he doesn't bring much value to the team.

I think you underestimate Chabot. He's a legit 1st pairing D in my book. He would also be a decent option on the PP. The guy just needs to stay healthy.

I mean....Chabot showed SO much potential in his first 2 seasons....I haven't watched enough Sens hockey in the past 3 years to know what his game is like now.
How has he fallen off? Is he a negative value contract?
If so, he seems like a PERFECT fit for the Flames right now. Take a cap hit off a team that wants to move on for a player that you could potentially rehabilitate into a competent player.
The only remaining question would be: How badly do the sens want to get rid of him?

Coleman’s been great and all but I think dumping him in a package deal is the wrong way to go. The Leafs have character issues and would love a poor man’s O’Reilly. I would think Tre would welcome him for his first rounder or a nice prospect. Point is I’d be hesitant to dump Coleman in a package deal rather than a solo deal to get more out of it. I’d Ottawa is concerned about the dollars I’d rather eat more of Markstroms salary.

Treliving didn't give up assets for Tanev. Why would he for Coleman?

Frank Seravalli was on Barn Burner saying that the Flames gave up their best chance for a high return at the trade deadline and any return now won't be for much due to competition.

Not sure if Treliving would take on Coleman but Coleman at 5.7% of cap and dropping (as a percentage) is a contract that you could trade and get good value back for I think. If the cap goes up by 5 million in each year of his contract that amount looks like
5.7%
5.3%
5%
For what he can bring (veteran leadership, solid on the PK, 20 goals and 20 assists) that is not a contract that is eating up a big chunk of cap room. If the Flames take on a bad contract for a year or two to get a better asset he is even more appealing.
But I agree, I doubt Brad is the guy who gets the deal done. I personally think Coleman would be perfect in Buffalo and depending on how good the young assets were coming back that Skinner would be a fine contract to dump. But if I was Conroy the assets would have to be pretty good because you are basically just eating 3 years and 27 million in cap space with Skinner.

He’s right. Calgary got a bit greedy likely. Best shot was the trade deadline and Conroy thinking there’d be more of a market for teams hunting for G’s is a misread offset by the fact that there is / will be more goalies available as playoff push pressure is off / teams look to rebuild.
Shoulda traded at the deadline IMO. Doesn’t mean there’s no value though and Frank is annoying.

We don't know what happened. It seems like Conory liked a deal, and someone killed it.
There is also more teams involved.
It seems like TMZ has an agenda against the Flames and Conroy to go do radio hits and put down all our assets as having zero value.
It's also embarrassing how Barn Burner keeps letting him come on Calgary radio, and put down our players weekly.

Injuries have been a concern, but people claiming he is a negative value contract and way off here. 4 years @ $8 mil is fine for a guy if he can stay healthy. he can out up 60 in 82 IMO
No way we get 7OV and Chabot for this package, if we did Conroy is the man and this trade will be another franchise altering good trade. Not holding my breath though that this one gets reported.

I can’t see Marky waiving to go to Ottawa. He has total control as to where he goes which is limiting

His career trajectory looks like Dion actually. Looks like he peaked during his ELC and its been downhill since.
