I think it has a better chance if they add summer attractions - the summer is the true busy season for tourists to the Rockies, and if they have a $200 zip-lining experience to sell that'll help. It also allows you to leverage fixed costs all year round, so you have more revenue to cover the permanent employees, insurance, etc.

Zip lines, mountain bike trails that are accessed from the chairlifts, downhill rail coaster. Stuff like that, Panorama has done it in recent years and it seems to see a lot of use.

Yeah, we go to Panorama usually every summer and have done a lot of that stuff - the mountain coaster is really neat, always busy, and is fairly expensive. They must be making $$ on that.
Panorama cares more about keeping the summer busy because they own so much lodging in the area - Fortress won't have that incentive. But they will have HR/accounting/management staff that need to be year round, so might as well utilize them in the summer and develop another profit centre. I think it has a chance if they do a good job with the summer revenue.

There's a lot more people in the province now and places like Banff/Canmore/LL are too busy.

Just steal all sorts of ideas from Revelstoke and Golden. Maybe even Whistler. Some ideas exist, add more.
- Pipe mountain coaster.
- Disc golf
- Bridges
- Enchanted forest type attractions that blend nature and man made added fantasy
- Places to sit down and just enjoy food and drink and natural scenery
- A premium driving range experience with the most wicked of views. (ie: Repurpose an older golf course hole and allow someone to just crank balls driving range style from there... similar to the hole beside bow falls where you drive over the river towards a fairway that sorta curves up the mountain concept)
- Do we want a premium outlet area like other tourist towns?
- Massive expansion (hopefully sustainably) for camping and tenting in the nearby areas/more remote areas not far from Transcanada
etc.
The problem is people will like it, and many people already dislike how many people like going to the mountains. Need more travel logistics for it like trains, regular double decker busses, overflow parking etc. The only solution to not let Canmore/Banff straight up blow up/melt down might be to try and develop in other areas instead. I'm thinking developing Kananaskis village and Lake Louise village into a premium destination that must be accessed by local transit (ie: shuttles from overflow) and then massive camping ground expansion in the region.
I took some friends to the mountains a few summers ago and the bussing availability was abysmal. Almost got trapped at a resort when the buses were totally full and we almost missed our bus because kids had to go to the bathroom at the best of times.

Kananaskis is an option, but places like Harvey Heights and Lake Louise just don't have enough developable area. And the idea of the NP embracing massive growth at LL is fantasy that isn't worth battling anyway.

A downhill coaster would be awesome. We've done this type of stuff in other places and it is a lot of fun. There were some really cool ones in Quebec that we tried.

The one in Golden sucks big time. It's so short.
At the same location, though, there's one of those rope swings you sit in and you plummet into the valley...that's a rush. The worker told me I was the last person he expected to scream. Thanks, guy.

Some of them sure are not so swift, a few are amazing to deal with and quite smart. I worked with a few of them over the years in Canmore and have a lot of respect for Foubert, worked with her for years at the Outlook and other places.
I get scared every time the town tries to solve the housing problem, they F it up every time! One project that was done in 3 Sisters was shut down for ages because the developer was not getting paid. The units were not quite almost to lock up stage and then they sat for ever and got completely infested by mold. When the project got restarted every unit had to be remediated before it could be finished and the cost of so called affordable homes went through the roof.
Most of the people I know that were and still are residents say Canmorons not Canmorites.
