One more episode to go. Obviously there's no way they'll be able to wrap up much of anything in 40-45 minutes, so we're definitely headed for a massive cliffhanger. And then the long ass wait until season 2 airs sometime in 2026 or thereabouts. Yay!

Yeah. It seems possible I may not remember/care by then.

What an absolutely lame penultimate episode.
-3PO cameo for no reason
-Omnipresent, infallible Leia with veto power over #### shes not physically involved in conveniently intervenes to save the day
-Not an ounce of tension in the ship chase through the debris field, sad rip off of ESB with impenetrable plot armour wasting of 15 minutes of the episode
-Ahsoka and Baylan swing sabers just because (when she could've dropped out of her ship closer to the turtle fight and avoided him entirely?..)
-Ahsoka has chance to finish off Baylan but won't .. cool
-Ezra refuses his lightsaber ala space bum Luke, despite a potentially dangerous situation.. Wait, don't you want your weapon to protect your friends? Nah, he's going to force Kung fu against an army with blasters and a dark jedi
-Snail turtles doing ewok stuff for comic relief from the ongoing comedy
-Ezra stalling the troopers with writing straight out of the sequel trilogy "wait! Let's...talk" " take us as prisoners!"
-Thrawn retracts assault teams AND the pursuit of her ship. But why? Why not take out their only means of getting to your space ring to spoil your departure and ensure that they're stranded on the planet? Isn't this guy supposed to be a cold, calculated strategist?
-Ahsoka has chance to finish off Shin, won't .. cool
-Ahsoka has chance to stop Shin, lets her go .. cool
-Ironically Thrawn admits to wasting time and sums up the episode as a whole
-No progression on the only intriguing plot thread going on at this point in Baylan's mysterious quest
Well ..... they'd better have quite the finale up their sleeve because that was a big fumble.
Really too bad after they had some positive momentum going from eps 5 and 6. I'm going to guess that this was the point when KK got back from the coffee run Filoni sent her on to keep her away from the set. Very sequel-y episode

I actually liked 3PO's cameo and the Leia stuff, but the rest of that episode was pretty lame and didn't really advance the plot at all. Clearly they're gonna have to green light a 2nd season shortly, as it feels like we're not even halfway through the story.
As for Ahsoka letting Shin go, I get the sense that maybe she wants to try and turn her to the good side. Shin appears to be a little conflicted about being essentially abandoned by Thrawn and Baylan.
As someone who never watched the animated stuff, Filoni isn't giving me any reason to give a s*** about Sabine or Ezra in this particular series. I'd actually be fine with killing off both of them and then just focusing on Ahsoka, Baylan, Shin, and Hera going forward.

The part where C3P0 said he was there on behalf of Leia was pretty cool I thought. We all know she couldn't be there, but here is a vestige of her era in her place.
It was a thoughtful connection and I thought a clever way to involve Leia directly without having to re cast or re face another actor (we all know how that went).
I will agree that the rest of it all had some holes. Like why couldn't those dark sisters or whatever just locate Ezra that way with their super orbs and have the army go out and just utterly destroy him?
It obviously only took a few minutes for those troopers to reach where they are.
And I just can't handle Sabine's acting anymore.. it is to much and to bad. The back and forths with Ezra are cringe worthy. Even the Ahsoka smirks and smugness is becoming a bit much. She didn't have to become a 14 year old girl again. Just bring some of that wit back out in her.
Ok that's fine I won't let one episode ruin the series, but that was definitely a step back.
The best part again was Hayden.
Big hopes for the finale.

5.5/10 episode for me. Had some good moments, but a lot of time wasted. Here's hoping this disappointment will be erased by the season finale next week.

Is the timing of the episode endings in the show maddening to any one else?
I feel like they pick such awful moments to drop the curtain. Basically as soon as each episode begins gathering steam.
And on the other end it seems like each episode has a sluggish start and takes 15-20 minutes to get really interesting.
I don't recall other enjoyable shows being structured this way.
It's kind of painful tbh. But maybe if you were watching the whole season through instead of week to week it wouldn't be too bad

The episode as a whole just felt like filler though and wasn't at all what I was expecting after just being introduced to Thrawn last episode. Maybe that's partly the fault of the director for the episode and her pacing, but the whole thing just seemed slow without moving anything important forward. Also we all understand that there's always some elements in Star Wars for the kids but these turtles are taking up way too much screen time IMO.
Baylan's single minded focus on whatever it is he's sensing in this new galaxy is the only thing that kept that episode from completely sliding off the rails for me. This guy has delivered every time he's on camera. Can't wait to see what it is he's looking for.
Ahsoka and Sabine need to really bring it next season IMO.. I don't know what it is but both performances are missing the mark for me. Both just feel.. wooden? Also not to pile on but I was hoping for better combat sequences in this show. A lot of sloooow fights. Bring back the Choreographer guy from Episode 3 plz.
|
The choreography has been intentionally changed to resemble more realistic sword fighting and have a more "Original Trilogy" feel.
And I agree, it sucks.

I really like this fighting style if I am honest. It is still skilled and at a level you'd expect a magic knight to be at. The Anakin-Ahsoka duel in the wbw was so good.

Yeah, I dont know what the overall plan was for this show.
I have to say, as someone who wasnt all that invested in Rebels/TCW, doesnt really like Asokha, etc and who really doesnt have a dog in this fight, this show has been falling fairly flat for me.
Even the re-introduction of Ezra, we havent established why this is important and they certainly didnt acknowledge the complete invalidation of his sacrifice.
If you asked an unbiased Galactic Citizen if they'd want Ezra back or prefer to keep Thrawn away from re-unifying the Empire and start another War they'd probably elect to leave Ezra to rot, they'd take that deal, which is partly why Ezra did it in the first place.
Baylon is off trying to find the Ultimate Power in the Universe or whatever and who knows what Shin is doing.
They havent even remotely addressed how they plan on getting the hell out of here other than maybe hitching a ride with Thrawn since he mined the planet and drove the whales away.

Saber fights need to be more swingy/spinny
Like the PT sword dancing. Funny how people knocked it then, but now aren't satisfied with normal lunge style fighting. It's not dazzling enough.
Anakin/Ahsoka fight was the best in all the series because Hayden was drawing on his PT technique.

I didn't mind the episode, but it wasn't great for the next to last episode of this season.
Space hippie bum Ezra not using a light saber was just a weird choice. And Thrawn pulling his troops back when he had the drop was a strange decision.
I did like that Braylan basically dismissed Shin and sent her off to take her place in the new Empire. He recognizes her ambition and aggressiveness and I don't think he likes it.
I think at the end of the day that Baylan is doing what he thinks is the best thing for the galaxy. He feels that Shin is heading for the darkside

To the bold point, she stole his ride. Couldn't have done that if she avoided him, and then the risk would have been greater he'd come down to the battle and join.
