It's weird when the best thing people can say about the whole "Reverse Retro" idea is "sure they're ugly, but they're supposed to be ugly, so that means they're working."


Here's a crazy idea: Don't make things that are intentionally ugly.

Objectively I don't think the new Reverse Retro is good-looking, but at least this time 'round the staffers who designed it understood the assignment: take a "retro" jersey design and substantially "reverse" it. All the "Blasty" jersey did was swap the red cuffs and bottom for black, and replace the red C patches on the shoulders with white, but the jersey is otherwise exactly the same as the one from 1998. Like the Rangers' Lady Liberty Reverse Retros from two years ago it was a pathetically low effort, and I cringe at how many people are seemingly enamoured with the team using the jersey as a "third" this year and going forward. I think Flames fandom may have the worst aesthetic sense in the league...



This time they truly "reversed" a "retro" jersey, switching the black from an accent colour on the "pedestal" design to the primary colour. It's hokey, but at least they're leaning right into the idea. In fact this looks very much like what people envisioned a "black" third Flames jersey would look like when it was rumoured the Flames were going to wear one in '98.

- Retros are still the fulltime jersey home/away.
- Blasty with wrist Flames is a 3rd or alternate
- Reverse Retro pedestal is this year only handful of times

Does that sum it up? Thats a lot of black jersey this season.

Other than nostalgia, for someone's own youth and not for the team of that era, I don't get anyone liking this jersey. Putting a logo on a pedestal is the worst idea ever. This iteration is better than the originals, but it still just looks bad. It's a terrible and confusing design choice.

Yes. 12 times for the horse head and reportedly 4 times for the pedestal (not yet confirmed). Assuming they're all worn at home, that will be 39% of all home games where the team won't be wearing a red jersey at home.

I highly dislike. Nothing but poor memories about the Flames wearing the original pedestal jersey. Why repeat that?

It's a retro jersey. The Flames already use the 80s jerseys as their main set so all that really leaves is sad panda years to choose from as far as other retro jerseys go

I actually blame younger millennials. Doesn't matter how ugly a uniform was, if that's what their team wore when they were kids, they'll want it now for nostalgia purposes. It's their fault there's a market for a Blasty and pedestal return haha.

I'm actually cool with both though. I already got my wish of a full time return to REAL Flames colours. Let the black Flames colour scheme fans have their fun with the alternates. My only gripe is between the 2, they're wearing them 12 (or more? I forget the exact # but it's high) home games this year. Too much.

They play 7 home games between US Thanksgiving and Christmas and won't be wearing red in any of them.

December 27 against the Oilers, New Year's Eve against the Canucks, and January 6 against the Islanders are the only games between November 29 and January 26 where they'll be wearing the normal reds at home.

As a one-off jersey, it is what it is. The only other option was an Atlanta Flames type jersey but those would've been too similar to our current home/away set minus the logo
