Just to follow-up on this initial rumour, RA on Spittin Chiclets confirmed on today's episode that he had heard from a source he trusts that Lucic to Boston was being considered at the time.

Safe to say given Bingo's Anaheim rumour earlier that the Flames were looking into moving Lucic's money, but likely went the Monahan to MTL route instead to make Kadri work.

Yeah, the Bruins would have had to send a contract back to make it work. I’m guessing that’s why it didn’t go down.

It's a terrifying time to be a Flames fan. Let's see if this gets done. I see keeping him until the TD. He's so valuable...

Unless the Flames are in a total collapse, Looch will have the most Value to the Flames. Which inherently will not make a him a cheap acquisition for other contending teams.

I like Lucic the human, and I like Lucic the hockey player. I don't like Lucic's stone hands and lugging presence or the salary. 4th line, sure.

It was either going to be one of him or Monahan being moved, but with Monahan gone I think he's here to stay. Was the first (or one of the first) player to talk to Huberdeau, seems super pumped about the Kadri signing too. Can still fill a role in the Pat Maroon 4th line role.

If he continues to be useful maybe he re-signs for close to the minimum.

I'm glad Looch is still here in Calgary.

After this season I want him back at league minimum as the 12th/13th guy. And I am willing to bet he’d be willing to that for a season or two. Would be awesome to keep him around.

Salary aside, Looch is a very important player for this team IMO, and not everything he provides is immediately obvious. There's the leadership, but there's also a lot of things that DON'T happen that make him valuable.

Plus, the players must feel a few inches taller-even with him on the bench.

I think trading Lucic hurts the locker room chemistry too especially with the turnover.

The club has to figure out something with Lucic to keep him tuned up for the playoffs. He had stretches this year where he was a valuable player on the ice in several facets. Physical, energy, production, making smart plays.

But in the playoffs he was overmatched and hurt the team. We need him to be a 4th line force come playoff time. Or else he gets replaced.

TBH I think Lucic would make a good captain.

On the Bob McCown episode with Tree, Tree made mention that they had another opportunity that dried up before trading Monahan to Montreal.

…could have been the Looch deal?

I was hoping Sutter would put Looch back on the pp against Edmonton and especially after the whole Smith confrontation. Toffoli was struggling and the pp did #### all against the oilers. I think it would have helped him be more engaged and get under Smiths skin a little at the same time. I really felt like it was an opportunity lost.

I've gotten annoyed every time I see a trade rumor or proposal with Looch involved. For what he's given us in terms of fisticuffs, he can play out the rest of his career here as he pleases.

Almost certainly. I think that's as close to a confirmation of the rumour as we'll ever get.

The Kadri signing was announced on the 18th, but Treliving said they had the deal finalized, pending the Flames being able to free the cap space, about a week prior, which would be the 11th. The Lucic to Boston rumour started picking up steam on the 12th.

I'm curious what the deal would have been. The Flames couldn't afford to retain salary on the deal because they needed to clear it all and the Bruins don't have any room to acquire his full cap hit either. A third team, such as Arizona or Anaheim, would almost-certainly have been needed. I wonder if it would have been the Flames trading Looch to ARI/ANA along with a draft pick (probably not the first they sent to Montreal) and Boston sending a player/cap to ARI/ANA for Looch at 50% retained?
