My take: Buffalo wants to flip Tkachuk to St. Louis immediately and are trying to negotiate that trade before finalizing with Calgary.

Basically with salary retained we get Eichel for $1M more than Chucky, back after Olympics and controlled for 4 years.
We also give up Valimaki (ouch) plus some magic beans (maybe ouch, probably not).
That seems wizardly to me. Flames become a top team down the middle (especially as I believe Moneyhands will be rehabbed).
Flames also have lots of picks to deal at the deadline for depth D etc.

this scenario is killing me because Mony and Chucky are the most recent jerseys I bought...but if it is Chucky and Eichel takes 19 then it's only a nameplate change

If they get Eichel, I don’t want to pick a single player in the upcoming draft.
I want bodies to help Gaudreau, Lindholm, Eichel and Mangiapane burn down some villages.

Well hopefully unless he is distinguishing an NHLer who was a former first round pick vs. prospects. A prospect can be a former first round pick.
Let's face it, we are parsing words. The identity of those prospects is potentially a big factor.
In any case, the Weekes rumor has the smell of truth about it. We know from observation that Treliving is more comfortable trading guys who don't want to be here anymore. I suspect that describes Tkachuk.
