Darryl Sutter says a lot of things to the media. Half aren't true.
Pitlick wasn't injured according to Sutter even though Flames announced it.
Every syllable out of Sutter's mouth has a meaning that only he knows.
I took it personal when deluxe mustache came into this thread after a great win and shutout by our goalie and instead of posting it in the GT he wanted to make it clear was an easy night with a passive aggressive compliment.

Sutter’s MO is not to complement individuals and to comment on the team play. Basically he said the team played the same as in Philly.

Yup. Downplay the stellar efforts, and support the strugglers. Trying to keep everything on an even keel.

So you chose to spend the rest of the night and into today telling a man with a Seth Bullock avatar what the #### he means.
If that was indeed what he was doing, you took the bait. He got you.
If he wants to see more from Markstrom against tougher competition, a) there’s nothing wrong with that and b) he’s been hurt before.
Markstrom is earning his money.
You’re sold - enjoy the ride.

Yikes.
Who cares how busy his night was, he posted a shut out. That's a good thing right?

Lol, you are wagging your finger here, while meanwhile, in your Game Takes, you say this:

Marksrom Bored Stiff
Another shut out for Jacob Markstom, but the goalie didn’t have a heck of a lot to do in the first 40 minutes
|
Markstrom was perfect, we agree. And he was more fortunate than poor Dustin Tokarksi in what he had to save. That’s a fact and anyone who takes it personally (really?) sounds like someone who may need to mature.

Markstrom has been phenomenal this year, nothing to complain about. Brings it every game, competes, seems like a stand up teammate. I think this signing might end up being Trelivings best.

I would agree with that. I'd put it like this:
A) Goals I felt he needed to have:
Fowler
Comeau
Suzuki
B) Saves I felt a starting goaltender with the advantage of the angles and time-to-react should still probably make, especially given time and score:
Benn
Forsberg
Bonino
And that's fine. That level of goaltending with this level of commitment to keeping the puck in the offensive zone is what you ask for.
But the Flames have played pretty outstanding in front their goalies for all but a few games (@Edmonton, @Rangers, @Pittsburgh, and @Toronto).
Of those four, the Edmonton game was the one where Zadorov-Tanev was still a thing so we may as well not overanalyze the results.
Markstrom gets fullmarks and then some for the MSG performance, and he didn't need to get a shutout to be the best player on the ice.
He was great against Pittsburgh, with the caveat that they were missing Letang, Crosby, Malkin, Carter.
Vladar was awesome against Toronto.

I'm of the mindset there's really no such thing as an 'easy' night for an NHL goaltender. Shutouts are tough to come by no matter the opponent.
One thing that's overlooked in Markstrom's game is his management of the play before and after the shot is so, so good.
His ability to find the shot release and get his feet set before the shot is one of the best in the league. The result is high danger shots that look like low event shots. There were a few of those in the first period.
After the save, he won't go swimming in his crease unless he's desperate because he's very good at tracking the rebound and finding the post again. Very economical movements and routes. So again, he has a tendency to make it look easy when it's really not.

This - when Markstrom is on, like almost every game this year, he tracks the puck really really well and moves really smoothly. Makes it looks easy. Other goalies might make the same save but they’d be in position later and it would look harder (eg. Vladar). Plus he’s huge.

He's a great fit for this Sutter team.

It was one of his easiest shut outs for sure. But pointing that out in a game story is one thing, coming on the site and doing it in this topic which was started under the premise that Markstrom isn't that good is another.
It's like Kylington.
I was wrong. I didn't see the guy having the ability to use his speed with the puck and I thought he wouldn't be a loss if he was gone on waivers.
Happy to be wrong.
I'm not in the Kylington thread trying to discredit his points as being second assists, or lucky, or not having to do the real work that led to the goal.

Doesn’t matter where you say it, that’s a stretch in trying to make some silly accusation
Anybody that wants to read it as discrediting and get riled up has only the mirror to look in to. It’s on how you choose to read it, but I didn’t say and words I didn’t say.
Facts are facts. Look at the goals the Flames scored. Tokarski had no chance on most of those shots, and Markstrom basically was called on to save none of that level of danger (not the statistical definition type, the actual shot taken) shots.
I hope it continues. The Flames D is stifling and Markstrom has been up to the job most nights
|
You do you I guess.
Pretty sure I'm not the only one interpreting your Markstrom comments as a little more sinister than you're willing to admit.

7 days ago the Sabres beat the Oilers while having almost the same expected goals as the Sabres did against the Flames.
They scored 3 times.
