It’s not a surprise though. The underlying numbers tell the story on those two players and it matches up with the eye test perfectly.
Zadarov’s ability to hit and generally prevent in-zone scoring chances is good…but the moment he touches the puck it’s a disaster, and the moment the opposition attacks his side with speed on a rush it’s game over for him.
I could stomach Zadarov on the 3rd pairing I guess…but why bother trading a 3rd for him? You just don’t need to spend assets on that quality of defenceman.
…and yeah, an absolute waste of cap space.
