We need longer days in the winter, period. Let's fix this earth tilt BS and have 12 hours of sunlight per day, every day, 12 months a year. Everybody wins. No more whining and complaining about the length of days.

The lack of tilt gives shorter periods of sunrise and sunset to enjoy. A friend of mine from Arizona likes to have a drink at the end of the day as he watches the sun set. When he visited me he was into his fourth drink and tilted towards the earth himself before the damned sun finally set.

We're talking about the winter. Equatorial locations have longer days than us right now.

Subsidize the cost of the Microwave by playing an ad during heating and I'm down. Beats mindlessly starting through the window for 1 min, wondering if microwave radiation is getting through the dots.

That's one gift from Covid-19. Work from home. No commute. Wake up at 9AM in the sun and log in. Log off at 5PM and crash on your couch immediately.

the hour gained was nice . it was nice again this morning when it was earlier than my body clock thought it was . natural sunlight in the morning is very good for you so I'm ok with this change .. my tune won't be the same when we lose an hour though

I found all my watches and clocks that I never bothered to DST in the spring. Now they are all on time again!

Its Chicago....finding someone to shoot you should be a relatively straightforward proposition...

Interestingly enough this is exactly what they used to do. They would lengthen and shorten the hours to fit night and day into 12 hours.

They built clocks that could be adjusted to allow for the changes in daylight based on the season.

see God's Clockmaker: Richard of Wallingford and the invention of time by John North if you love dry as hell but rigorous history.

I prefer more sunlight in the evenings. However in the winter, when the night skies are clearer, it sure is nice not having to stay up really late to use the telescope.

First time change as a parent and while I was leaning to thinking we should get rid of it before, but overall pretty indifferent, I would now like to fire it into the sun.

I've said it once, and I'll say it again. If you are having trouble with the time change as a parent, your schedule with your kids is too strict. A one hour change should affect your life for maybe one day at most. If they can't adjust to a relatively small change like that they are too tied to the schedule.

Routine = good
Schedule = bad

I really liked Monday morning, they were both dressed and ready for school 15 minutes early, time to sit down and eat breakfast. Today it was back to yelling at them at 6:55, "your bus is leaving you behind in 15 minutes, do you want a toasted bagel or a eggo waffle shoved in your mouth on the way out the door?" 1 day living the dream, now they've adjusted and back to reality.

Yeah, personally I don't see why anyone would prefer light when they're commuting to their jobs, over light when they're free and home afterwards. But I guess it just tells you how differently we're all wired.

I prefer the school drop off in daylight mainly because the area isn’t swarmed with strugglers driving like it’s 2am and they’re on the way home from the bar.

My kids aren't really the problem...the time change ####s ME up so I'm not as well equipped to deal with their usual chaos.

Except people massively overstate how much they want or actually “use” afternoon/evening light.

Does the sun going down at 430 vs 530 really make much of a difference in how people live their lives in the winter? I doubt there is any appreciable difference in how active people are.

Even in the summer, except for things like golf, it’s mostly BS. No one doesn’t go out for supper or go for a walk or whatever just because it’s dark at 9 instead of 10. It certainly doesn’t affect people who live closer to the equator.

There’s nothing wrong with people wanting to get off work when it’s light out. I don’t know why they don’t just say that. But they aren’t more active in that extra hour.
