Don't think the mods add a poll so we can discuss which poster likes it and which poster doesn't.

Perfect example of player who needed a change, this is a really good risk for the Flames to take.

Very well spoken. I recently worked on a documentary where we interviewed him - really down to earth kid who's got a great head on his shoulders.
Couldn't have been more impressed with his maturity at a young age. Character wise, the Flames made a great addition today. Hope his potential translates here and he's given a proper shot. I really think this is the right place for him to flourish.

2nd rounders develop into solid players all of the time. Probably more often than reclamation projects turning out actually.
Funny how now that the Flames traded their 2nd, it has little value but when the speculation was happening before the deadline no one wanted to part with it for anything.
|
Ok polak
Which 2nd rounder from Lazar's draft year do you see as being a solid player?
Chris Bigras?
Jacob De La Rose?
Laurent Dauphin?
Steven Santini?
Nicolas Petan?
Nick Sorensen?
Gustav Olofsson?
Justin Bailey?
Artturi Lehkonen?
William Carrier?
Tyler Bertuzzi?
Zach Sanford?
Some big names up there...out of them the only guy who may make it out as solid is Fucale, and he's a goalie and still far from the NHL.
Monahan has over double the points than all 2nd rounders of 2013 combined...
In fact the whole 2nd round of 2013 has scored a grand total of 70 points so far.
You know who's ahead of all the 2nd rounders of 2013? Lazar
And 2013 was considered a strong draft, 2017 could be the worst in 20 years. Chances of a solid player coming out of the 2nd round this year are fairly slim, let alone Calgary drafting him. And the Flames likely being in a playoffs spot this year, it would be a mid-late 2nd rounder too.
What's this obsession with draft picks? We have guys like Poirier and Klimchuk who were first rounders and may never turn out, but want to play the lotto again for a guy that may pan out in 4-5 years? Our rebuild is mostly over now, draft picks are no longer as desirable as they were in prior years. Lazar is closer to being an effective player, even as a longshot than any 2017 2nd rounder.

When he was drafted, I remember there being comparisons to Mike Fisher.

Remember last year when I said Colborne wouldn't be qualified and more than 94% disagreed, called me an idiot and every name in the book and why on earth would the Flames be dumb enough to lose him for nothing? Some even suggested he was part of the core lol.
Just because you agree with the majority, doesn't make you right. And I don't see how it matters who likes this trade and who doesn't.
I like Lazar and always have. I think a 2nd was too much. I'll still cheer for him and I still do think he has potential. I think he for sure can step in and become a replacement for Bouma and Chiasson. I even wouldn't mind if he took Versteeg out of the lineup.
Not liking the value of a trade doesn't mean you don't like the player.

^Bigras is still highly regarded in Colorado
I like the player, but I'm not a big fan of the price. Best case is that he pulls a Baertschi and he can end up being a good 3rd liner. It's a little bit of a character > skill move but I'll trust Brad and the scouts.

by the way, I don't dislike this trade because I thought they'd knock the 2nd rounder out of the park in a weak draft, I just think they overpaid. Simple as that. A 2nd, even in a weaker draft, is a nice asset and to me you can use that asset better than flipping it for Lazar, who IMO has a very low ceiling and now needs to be protected in the expansion draft (otherwise that 2nd could have been spent on a rental who would have been a bigger immediate help).
I hope Lazar pans out in Calgary. I hope a change of scenery does wonders for him and I hope he's a good fit. I'd be really glad to eat crow here, but right now, I don't think that was a good trade.

I like this deal. Lazar adds some depth to the right side. Is fast, has good hands, plats with energy and grit. Hopefully he can out it together here.
As for the price, a second rounder seems steep but the Flames have loaded up on second round picks the last few drafts, and are still going to get a good player in the first round.
The Flames could afford to move a second and the fact they got a young guy who fills an organizational need instead of a old rental guy is a big bonus.

I am saying to argue and make the same ridiculous points over and over again is trolling
94% agree that its neutral or better
and the odds HEAVILY favor the Flames...have your opinion
to say the Flames could have gave up Subban is trolling

Forgive me if this has been mentioned elsewhere in the thread. Is there a risk of him being plucked from the Flames in the expansion draft? That 2nd round pick would be an awfully high price to pay if that were the case...

Voted like it because I really am happy with it. I'm a really big fan of Lazar. I don't love it though because I don't feel they stole the deal. Seems fair for both teams.

Very well said. The sky's not falling, I just don't believe the Flames got full value for their 2nd rounder. It could easily still turn out just fine.
