Everyone has an opinion on Russell. I think of him as a quick defenseman, incredibly gutsy for a man his size, a good leader. Edmonton did a good pickup getting him, he was relied on heavily on their early season rise. He didn't use the excuse that it was a new coach and a new system.

I could see you maybe having a point if Russell was playing as well as Hamilton is but he isn't. Besides the Oilers are the opposite of the Flames in that they started hot and caught teams getting out of the gates slow but they have regressed and are taking water fast as other teams pass them in the standings.

Russell has guts all right. He is just not that good at moving the puck out of the zone. If you read what the Oiler fans are saying about him now it is very familiar. Russell is a decent number 5 defenceman. Putting him anywhere higher is giving him too much to do.

If this is the goal that McDavid made a stupid drop pass in the zone while skating the puck up the ice then not really Russel's fault. That's on McDroppass.

The Jets had the puck in the Oilers zone. Russell chased a guy all the way to the blue line, the puck went back down low and two Jets were all alone. They got two whacks and the second went in.

Oilers have struggled as of late with Russell getting a lot of the heat from their fans. It is almost like more than just the start of the season matters. Weird you joined the forum in 07 and troll so much in 2016

Oh ok thought that was the other 2 on 0 the Oilers gave up recently. Hard to keep track of the 2 on 0's on the Oilers.

For the record ... happy to see Hamilton perform as promised these days. I'd still move him if the right package was offered in return - sell high not low.

Would you care to define the " right package", in your mind?

Russell was actually one of the guys that did it right in that video. He chased the puck carrier up the boards providing pressure. It was Lucic's job to read that and cover him in front of the net but he just heads across the box and to the point without doing much, completing letting Russell down on the coverage.

So hang that on Lucic and the mystery defense partner who was in the right spot but must have a serious neck injury since he never looked around to find where the other two Jets were on the ice.

Yup.

In totally unrelated matters, who got banned in early October 2016?
