Haha! I've noticed that too and its kind of funny. I see it from some of my clients.
Its like when you have to call someone and you've got really bad news, you call them on Sunday night and pray that the machine picks up so you can leave a message.

This government? Come on, all governments do this. It's a very well known technique.

It's right out of the Political Strategies 101 textbook.
Sometimes I feel like this government is running things from a university classroom. Then I realize that my MLA actually is! Oh the sadness.

The thing that gets me the most is that the NDP seem to believe that this is their one shot, their 4 year mandate to do what they want and get what they want and they're absolutely going to take it.
And they're doing this because all of their actions indicate that they genuinely dont give a rat's ass about Albertans.
This 4-year term feels like a smash and grab because these are people acting in the belief that they arent going to be around to suffer the consequences.

I should have been clearer that "speed bump" was to the PC dynasty. Looks like they'll probably be back in power in 2019 and the NDP will be back to a few Edmonton seats. It's funny that we're looking at back to back elections where the ruling party will go from majority to decimated and probably in the single digits, and a single digit party will go from outhouse to the penthouse.

I know its been said, but it bears repeating: have an announcement that you don't like, or don't think will get good coverage, or think people may just forget about if they have a weekend, etc....you announce it on friday afternoon.
Every government, everywhere does this. There was a lot of 4.30pm to 5pm Friday releases prior to the NDP

Business too. This is one thing that is not unique to the NDP.

Actually I agree. Not really anything unique to the NDP other than the fact that they seem to tend to have more announcements than I'm used to.
So all Governments do this but I find that the NDP do it more often just because they have more things to announce.

You tell her on Friday that there will be no sexual services offered over the weekend?

Seriously? The NDP are just doing what they want screw the consequences?? what exactly is it that they want???
You can make solid arguments that they are misguided, inexperienced, incompetent..... But suggesting they are out to screw Alberta to further their own agenda is ridiculous

Not if you are of the opinion that Notley is taking her marching orders from the mothership in Ottawa. Something that has a lot of indications to be true.

What exactly are those marching orders though? Hey Rachel, we want you to implement our policies....we know they will screw Alberta but will show the rest of the country how competent we are!

You guys give the NDP far to much credit!
For there to be any sort of conspiracy one must first have a plan, and some form of intelligence.

Yeah, pretty much that's it in a nutshell.
The NDP is an ideology...period. It's one that, in theory, makes all sorts of goodness in regards to protecting and building the social network and protecting the most vulnerable....and of course unionized workers.
Theory is one thing and reality is an entirely different animal.
If you believe that the federal arm of the party is pulling the strings for their provincial counterparts, things like waiting for a federal budget before releasing their own in hopes the mothership won country wide, makes sense. Otherwise, waiting made no sense at all no matter what the spin doctors were saying.
furthermore there is a strong sentiment that Ms. Notley herself has aspirations to reside in Thomas Mulcairs spot and as such she is beholden to the federal party to follow instructions as a good little soldier does.
Otherwise she is committing political suicide at the provincial level after getting a shot to show she can be a leader. The only place she is leading this province is off a cliff and it's all because of some dubious decisions at the very worst of times.
there are numerous examples of questionable choices she and the provincial party have made since the minute she took office. There has to be a reasonable explanation for them and as usual its probably the simplest as well.
The NDP have no qualms about throwing this province under the bus, if they believe there are aspects that will help them down the road federally. They certainly do not need nor expect Alberta to go orange in a federal election, but the "example" they can set for their real base by decimating Alberta with taxes etc and veil it as "for the greater good of Canada" knows no bounds IMO.

One must also question how much time Alberta NDP drones are spending acting as fundraisers and promoters for out-of-province NDP drones. One doesn't have to believe she is simply acting on Mulcair's orders to believe that being a good NDP soldier is very high up on Notley's list of priorities, even when it conflicts with the job we are paying her for - which is to lead this province and act in its best interest.
