lots of great posts here that have this well covered.
I agree that there is ample room and opportunity for 'this year's Josh Jooris' to be someone (or someones) already on the roster.
Colborne looks poised to take a step. So does Ferland. So does Jooris for that matter. And who knows how much Bennett develops this year.
Too many good, young NHL bodies. There just isn't any room for a Hathaway (unless they are off-the-charts crazy-good).
And then there are the conversations on defense and in goal.
Good times!

They went on about Colborne adding 15 pounds and how that would imrpove his game. He really has potential IMO. I'd like to see what he and Bennett could do if he can play a good power forward game. If Ferland keeps up the offence that's a prettty nasty line that can score, while Backlund and Frolik and, say, Granlund on LW play a defensive two way game.

I also think that the Flames will be more active on the trade front with respect to their prospects. I think there are going to be many posters this year 'outraged' that one of their favorite prospects is traded away for futures or as part of add-ins on larger trades.
There are simply too many good players on this team now that legitimate talent can no longer make the squad, and the Flames will (Treliving is a very proactive guy) try to recoup assets for down the road to ensure a continuous supply of young talent. I myself was very disappointed in seeing Reinhart be traded, and I still think he will end up being a decent NHL'er, but definitely see it as a situation that will end up happening more in the near future.

Backlund not on the ice again, and Millions speculating he may be hurt. (Didn't practice or play yesterday or today)
Would really suck for him to get injured a week into training camp...again.

It had never occurred to me, but the line they put together last night might be an absolutely awesome combination for this season.
Ferland - Bennett - Colborne
Plenty of size. Plenty of speed. And enough offensive talent on the wings to give Bennett something to work with.
Also, Colborne is good at protecting the puck down low. Bennett LOVES to play behind the net and down low - he needs someone that he can work with.
The other great thing about this trio is that it leaves Hudler on the top line, and frees Frolik up to play with Backlund, creating 3 solid lines and loads of depth:
Gaudreau - Monahan - Hudler
Bouma - Backlund - Frolik
Ferland - Bennett - Colborne
?????? - Stajan - Jones
I just love the thought of this line. I like Colborne, but have always struggled with finding a spot in the lineup for him. This might be the perfect place (until Poirier is ready).

Now that you mention it, I like this too and it puts less pressure on Bennett at centre too being the 2B/3rd centre. Hopefully Backlund isn't hurt again, sigh.
That question mark down there, I would like to see Byron swapping in and out with one of the youngsters, but it will likely be Bollig/Raymond.

It works because it would be the "protected" line (though I don't think any of them are especially bad at defence and Colborne is actually pretty decent). Colborne needs success and the other two guys are the ones to give it to him.
On the fourth you have a bunch of energy guys who fit the bill for LW - Granlund, Jooris, Byron, Shore, Bollig (for "those" games). And Stajan and Jones can probably pot a few.

I really like these lines too. Many on the 'Pick the starting line up' thread were leaning towards Bouma-Backlund-Frolik as a line as well. The Ferland-Bennett-Colborne line just looks too good to not try anyway.

Which season will have the expansion draft? Thats when were likely to get hit and need players like Paul Byron and Josh Jooris to step up into more permanent roles.
Ive been really busy lately, can anyone fill me in on Granlunds situation.

Granlund has been one of the top 3 bubble forwards so far in my estimation. Been decent in every aspect of the game.

Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
#Flames have sent Dustin Stevenson to Stockton. Mason McDonald assigned back to QMJHL.
Pat Steinberg @Fan960Steinberg
That leaves the #Flames with 47 players in camp. Down to 4 goalies, 17 d-men, and 26 forwards.

Colborne could also take some faceoffs, something Bennett isn't that great at yet.

Bennett is going to get as many faceoff attempts as possible this year, just like Monahan did as a rookie.
If there's an emergency situation for a faceoff win, we'll see Monahan, Backs, or Stajan out there.

Updates on Nakladal, Backlund and Arnold
Quote:
Flames D Jakub Nakladal, who was injured in Thursday’s exhibition outing in Colorado, skated Saturday in Cowtown, although the 27-year-old was wearing a yellow caution jersey. Flames C Mikael Backlund also laced ‘em up at the Saddledome, a good sign after the shutdown centre missed three consecutive days of practice ... The Flames assigned G Mason McDonald to the QMJHL’s Charlottetown Islanders, while D Dustin Stevenson is en route to AHL Stockton. The 19-year-old McDonald should be back in Calgary in December to audition for a spot on Canada’s world-junior squad ... Flames C Bill Arnold might miss out on his opportunity for a pre-season audition. His dental repairs after being clipped by a high-stick during Friday’s morning skate included a bone graft, and the 23-year-old will need at least a few days to recover before returning to the ice.

I'm sure that everyone that is headed there eventually will go. Any of the players that are a question mark whether they might stick in the NHL will likely stay. It'll be interesting if Kylington gets assigned to Stockton tomorrow.
