I would play Arnold ahead of Shore. What I've seen of Shore, he's not strong in the faceoff circle like Arnold is. Arnold plays a stronger 3 zone game as well. I think he could easily take Shore's spot.
|
I'll take Shore over either of those two. Shore was a 61% faceoff guy in the NCAA which is nothing to sneeze at. He was also a 49.2% faceoff guy in the NHL this year. Also, he is a RH shot which is something we are desperately lacking.

Far ahead of him in potential? Not sure the Flames and the league see it that way. As was mentioned above Treliving said they got the most calls about Shore at the trade deadline. He's not a problem child either. Don't his upside as being lower than Granlund, Wolf, Reinhart, Arnold, etc. Poirier? Sure Poirier has a higher upside, other than that I think Shore has about as high an upside as any of the rest.
He'll either make the team next year or we deal him to a rebuilding club rather than risk him on waivers. Not a huge problem for us IMO. It's all up to Shore from here on in. Perhaps we do see him later in the playoffs if we are struck with injuries (knock on wood.)

Shore might get the most in a trade return based on Trelivings comments at the dead line, but based on those same comments I doubt Treliving wants to trade him.
Going to be some tough decisions to be made for sure, a lot tougher than the Sven decision.
Good problem to have, but I have a feeling a few decent NHLers are going to slip through the cracks. Hopefully BT can get decent picks back for them, and in a sense "recycle" them into another blossoming prospect down the road.

#Canucks send LW Sven Baertschi back to Utica. His agent has had preliminary talks with #Canucks about a new contract.

I look forward to him having a good playoff run and 'earning' himself a spot on the Nucks' roster next season.

Dropped two on the Oilers, they are probably convinced he's earned it.

It just goes back to Sven having something lacking.
Yes he has great offensive skills.
but for a guy that had every reason, and every motivation to come out hard in games 5 and 6, for a guy that you would think would do everything he could to be a difference maker, and establish himself as a must have for the Canucks last year.
Well he was an interesting combination of invisible, non-committed and just plain ordinary.
In other words
He's just not cool.

I would expect a one way deal as chances are he doesn't pass through waivers anyway if he's sent down as another team in will likely take a flyer on him just to check him out.

If he doesn't make the Canucks next fall, he'll make it through waivers. He'd be 23 by that time, there isn't going to be much of any interest.

Am i the only one that sees that Baertschi can't skate at an NHL level?
He can't keep up with what's happening on the ice, that's his biggest issue in my mind.

I don't know if I saw that because frankly I didn't think he was skating or working all that hard.

Don't know if he can't or just doesn't put forth the effort. I do think that he hasn't yet learned to think and react quickly enough, so the play is done by the time he figures it out. His few good plays this year have come when he has had plenty of time to figure things out.
I just haven't seen this tremendous skill he's supposed to have. His skating - see above. His shot - meh. His stickhandling? He never has the puck long enough. Passing? He made a nice long pass this year, other than that, nothing special. Lots of guys can make that pass with time and space.

I'd like to see him get that 1 way contract and stick with the big club all next season and play in the top 6. We will finally see what kind of player Sven really is. That way there can be no more excuses of not being given enough chances, ice time, etc and this debate can finally die.

I would think that both Buffalo and Arizona would definitely be interested.
They would have both the roster spot, and the patience to see if he can progress.

I think his general agility is ok, but what I notice most is a very very slow acceleration. He just seems to labour when the play changes direction.
But whatever, he's their problem now. We gave away a time-constrained asset for a fresh 2nd round pick. Win.

Yeah, his skating has not developed at all - he is pretty slow out there.
But I still think the biggest thing is that, since his injuries, he has become a total perimeter player. He is waiting for others to get him the puck, and that just doesn't cut it in the NHL.

Would they?
Maybe the Coyotes but the Sabres have plenty of young players they'd give NHL playing time to before another teams waiver fodder.
We forget that post training camp waivers are super busy. Every team has a guy they think will be taken, and doesn't.
