Americans on Twitter are wondering why our broadcasters are so calm and not in some panic inducing hysteria. American media is a disgrace.

Textbook example...

BBC News has had very good continuing coverage here in the UK, I'm surprised actually that they haven't cut away to any other stories for the past hour or so.

it's so sad what CNN has become. They used to be so good and then it's like they saw all these fringe news networks beating them in the ratings and decided to turn it up to 11.

I just got home from work. Our building managers told us to stay inside the building until RCMP indicated we could evacuate. We weren't there long though. I walked home and am just checking in with everyone to be sure everyone is home and safe.

I just can't believe this has happened. I live here. I work here. I was born and raised here. I pass by that monument every day, including today. When I was a journalist, I worked with a lot of people at Parliament Hill. I eat lunch most days at Rideau. Now what? I just can't believe this.

They're like the news source from all those post-apocolytpic american movies. Reminds me of the news flashes in Robocop

it's really strange. How can a person walk right into parliament with a large weapon like that?

Once they got in, they didn't manage to kill anyone (not including the soldier that was killed at the memorial), was that due to quick response by the security/forces inside, or were they looking for a particular target and nothing else, in which case, a shotgun/rifle seems like a pretty questionable weapon for a targeted attack on someone.

i haven't been able to follow all the news coming out, but is there any indication of whether this is being deemed a terrorist attack.

not to be a conspiracy guy or anything, it's a month ago yesterday that news came out that ISIS was urging for attacks on canada (http://news.nationalpost.com/2014/09...your-bedrooms/), as well as today being 10/22 (peculiar day like 9/11)....

this is such a upsetting day for all canadians, thoughts and prayers with the victim, and the people involved in keeping us all safe.

Seems unclear that there was a second shooter.

They did raise the terror threat level before this went down: http://www.citynews.ca/2014/10/21/ca...-threat-level/

What I am finding strange is the lack of news over the past 2-3 hours.

They have always been bad like that. I recall back in the early 1990s during the 1st Gulf War, they were using corny graphics and music. It is probably when I first realized that CNN was more abut selling news than reporting news. It always struck me as odd that they would do that to such a serious a terrible event.

Hate to link to Fox News, but a possible link to an ISIS connection:

Has CBC even taken a commercial in 5 hours? You know it's a really rough day when Mansbridge has had to hold back tears a couple of times.

From what I can tell, CBC and CTV News have not taken a break at all.

I would think that this has to be some sort of targeted attack rather than just a random killing spree. It appears as though the gun-man had opportunities to inflict mass damage but instead was focused on something.

Yeah, he went right after a soldier, and then exchanged gun fire with RCMP.

Seems to be a copy cat to Monday in a lot of ways.

Off topic, but how many American police forces are looking at that vehicle with jealousy? Fantastic images though. Officers acting to protect and defend in such a stressful situation.
