Long term, it's best to wait, but Burke placed a lot of importance on getting the '14 draft right, and we needed the guys to do it (paraphrasing). Given that the last 3 drafts have been pretty good, especially in the latter rounds, does Burke make changes to the scouting dept?
I don't think Burke is super stong on the prospect side of things.

It is probably impractical to make major changes to the scouting department 6 months away from the draft.
The best Burke can probably due is influence how the Flames rank prospects for the 2014 draft.
Then after the draft if he or the new GM feels there needs to be changes make them.

Agreed, although Burke did make major changes to the scouting department 6 months away from the draft (given Weisbrod essentially ran the scouting department with Button's help).

Flames best draft in years has been the 2011 draft, which was all Button.
I think the Flames will be okay if Burke lets Button makes the picks.
I think the more important thing is loading up on draft picks. All of Cammalleri, Stempniak, Stajan, Butler need to be traded for picks in the top 3 rounds.
The draft is still a crapshoot, and the more chances you have, the better.

How can you say that when most haven't played a single NHL game?

Because they are at least on track to develop. They are all, with the exception of Broissot, have made a good transition to the pro game. Do they all have to have played 100 games in the NHL after having been drafted just two years ago for it to be deemed a good draft?

No but they probably should have played more than 50 games total to be deemed a good draft.
They can all be superstars at the junior/NCAA/minor level but if they do nothing at the NHL level then who cares? So far those guys have done nothing at the NHL level.

@TSNBobMcKenzie
LA co-director of scouting Mike Futa was interviewed by BUF pre-Christmas. May have been last of BUF's preliminary (1st interview) phase.
Would be a dick move if the Kings allowed Buffalo to interview Futa and not Calgary when we allowed them to interview Darryl.

A little bit, but to be FAIR, we're in the same conference as they are and Daryl didn't actually work for the Flames when they allowed the Kings to talk to him.
It's not like it's Futa or bust, nor will LA allow Futa to walk before the draft, so we've got plenty of time to get an interview.

“@TSNBobMcKenzie: BOS asst GM Jim Benning a strong candidate in BUF but others still in hunt. No final decision made yet but may not be too far off.”
"@TSNBobMcKenzie: Nary (I've always wanted to use nary in a tweet) a word on CGY search for GM. All quiet on the Flames' front in that regard.”

Hope Burke is not living in the past.
San Jose, Chicago, Anaheim and Pittsburgh currently have, respectively, the 2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th fewest penalty min in the NHL.
They are all very fast, skilled and puck possession teams who compete hard.
Truculent?
Not so much.

Except San Jose, Chicago, and Anaheim are all quite "truculent" (if you insist on using that word).
Truculent doesn't mean "careless target of penalty calling".

If Poulin is Burke's guy, won't be until the summer
--Leaf executive Dave Poulin might be targetted by former Leaf boss Brian Burke to work in Calgary, but it won't be happening until next summer, if at all. Poulin is contractually tied to the Leafs through this season.

Every single candidate Burke has talked to is contractually tied... it means nothing.
All that matters is whether permission is given or not, and judging by how many times we've seen Burke talking to Poulin, permission has been given.

Friedman says Benning is the front runner in Buffalo.
Said many people were surprised that Benning stayed in NA instead of going to the WJC and may indicate that he will be hired soon.

Yeah it would be great to get another Cliff Fletcher.
I don't want anymore experiments. It seems everyone since Coates was a weird choice - except maybe Sutter, that made sense at the time.
We have Burke. He fired Feaster, let him GM the team for 5 years. Have him train Conroy to take over in 5 years.
Although it would be cool to see what Regier could do with an actual bank roll.
