I find it interesting that the team with fewer vets (Wideman, Hudler, Jackman) ended up playing a much scrappier, team-oriented game than the squad that was at the 'Dome tonight that included a large chunk of the Flames veteran players (Glencross, Cammalleri, Stajan, Stempniak, Giordano, SOB, D. Jones, MacDonald).

I do realize it has only been one preseason game (okay, two games), but that reminds me of Feaster & Brent Sutter talking about how much more energy and fight the Flames had on their late-season run in 2011 when they had their younger players in the line-up.

Something to think about.

Horak and Hanowski were the best players tonight no doubt. Jooris had an amazing 3rd period but was not that noticeable the rest of the game and was even on the night. Berra looked really good in all aspects especially in his movement across the crease and rebound control. Granlund had very little icetime and none on the PP but was effective in the third when he got a shift with Hanowski instead of McGratten and had a couple of good scoring chances. Byron got PP time but was bad on it. Derek Smith bailed out Kanzig a couple of times tonight and was solid on defense. Kulak needs to forget this game and I think he was on for 4 goals, 2 even strength if I remember right.. I hope Jooris keeps impressing like he did in the 3rd. Would love to see a full game like that from him as well as Sven who finally got it together and showed some great moves in the 3rd.

It's not something to think about, it's blatantly obvious to anyone who's been watching this team play the past few years.

With the kids in the lineup, there's energy, excitement, hustle and creativity.

With the vets in the lineup, there's spurts of work ethic, lots of coasting, lazy passing and lots of shooting at pads in shootouts.

With the number of vets in the lineup for this upcoming season, it's going to be another long year. Then, they'll trade a bunch of guys, some will get injured, the kids will get called up, and suddenly the team will be competitive again, only it will be too late for it to matter.

Same story as least year, I'd bet monopoly money on it.

Feaster needs to announce fire sale on the rest of our vets. Enough of this 1-2 spots for our abundance of young guys knocking at the door..

They could ship out Butler, Jackman, Cammy and Stajan and open up a few spots. I'd be happy with that even if they lose because the young guys play with passion and hopefully you could get a couple of prospects back so long as they're not Kulak. Did I mention Kulak sucked tonight. Just a hundred times.

How, on earth, do they call that a goal? The overhead shot clearly showed it did not cross the line.

But honestly maybe Troy Ward can help Kulak with his defensive game and turn him around. I did like the one end to end rush he made.
