Hitler would never have cheered for either of those teams, he knew where to draw the line.

I sort of don't understand the hate for the Leafs other than that they get a lot of undeserved media love. There's nothing particularly scathing or unlikable about the team. I live out here and I find myself rooting for them a bit, even if they aren't my favorite team.
To be honest, the Leafs a few years back looked a lot like the Flames do this year, bare cupboards and not much hope on the horizon with a few prospects they tend to covet or perhaps overate (Kadri vs Baertschi).

Dion and Khadri are kind of unlikeable. Other than that, it is the media orgy that makes us hate the current Leafs.
I heard Bowen call the third period on the radio last night, and I was embarrassed for him. Three "Holy Mackinaws" in less than 30 minutes. Maher at least saves the "yeah babys" for special events. He gushed "Thank You Kessel" like a cheerleader. Twice he complained about non-calls on Boston for interference and diving, but never once pointed out a non-call the other way. Too much.

Leafs "marketing" or whatever did a good job in firing Wilson and Burke for PR reasons. Just hard to like them, period.
I agree Dion and Kadri are very easy to hate as well.

I can understand Phaneuf being easy to dislike but what exactly did Kadri do to be easily unlikeable?

He is an ex-Flame and we seem to be getting into the obnoxious Oiler-esque phase of fandome where every one that used to be Flame=crap, awful everyone on the Flames= awesome, super overrated.
The media stuff with the Leafs is way overblown as well. The media has been talking them down for awhile now and not really focusing on them all that much more than they deserve but people can;t seem to change what they want to believe about the so-called media hype.

Give Leafs fans some credit here too. We all know some, and their delusional optimism has been irritating for over a decade. Many of them are already talking about how they'll be a contender soon.

As a fan base, they are miles better than Vancouver and Montreal. They are incredibly loyal. Like Cubs fans.

Dion was unpopular with many Flames fans when he was in Calgary. Many ex-Flames are still very popular here, ex. St. Louis, Regehr and Iginla.
It's not media "hype" necessarily that bothers us. Just the sheer volume of it, whether it is cheerleading, or critical.

Really? I would have said the exact opposite.
The only other ex-Flame I can think of who seems to be hated is Bouwmeester and even he has lots of supporters. I guess there has been some minor dislike for Bourque but if anything it is less than when he played here. Tons of people are cheering for Iggy and Reggie these playoffs.

I would say that Regehr is not all that popular here and certainly had a lot of don't let the door hit you sentiments when leaving. A lot of I don't care if Iginla wins or loses the Cup comments that I think would not have been nearly as prevelant a few years ago.
I think the volume of Leafs coverage from the media is way overblown by many.

As mentioned above, when Regehr left I remember a lot of good riddance, Bourque was garbage when dealt, Sutter garbage when fired, Bouwmeester, Comeau (although hated always), people happy to see Jokinen gone.
Then Wideman, Hudler, Cerevenka all vastly overrated once they get here.

Dion always came across as a neanderthal mouth-breather with a huge ego. I was never his biggest fan even when he was here.
I don't hate the Leaf players specifically, I just hate the organization and their whole self-congratulating ways in spite zero success.
I hate the term "Leaf Nation". The fact that Leafs fans plan the parade at the slightest notion of success is annoying. The media jumping on board and accommodating them only makes it worse.
I can't stand sports teams in blue for some reason. Just doesn't feel right. People who were born and raised in Calgary being Leaf fans is oddly annoying too.
The Leafs haven't won in almost 50 years, yet they still get attention like they are the NY Yankees. That kind of undeserved attention is hate-worthy. I also hate the Yankees...but I can at least respect them.

Phaneuf is awesome and the Flames were a better team with him than without.
