Honestly I love this course of action. Blow it the hell up and start with drafting. Don't take on anyone else's damaged goods and start from scratch. At least it's an honest rebuild.

Bring on Burke, the guy wins trades. Even the trades he loses (offer sheet to Kessel so it wasn't really a trade in the first place), he still gets a PPG player out of it; Kessel is also outscoring Seguin by a fair margin.

If you guys really want to get somebody fired, get a chant going at the Saddledome on Wednesday.

I'm somewhat with you. I do wish the prospect quality was better though. It helps stagger the ages a little too, and maybe our future can be that slight bit closer with better quality prospects.
That said, without retaining any salary, it doesn't surprise me that we got dinged the prospects in exchange for taking all of Jay's salary. Given that we shouldn't be a cap team next year and he only has one year left, I SERIOUSLY hope that that wasn't on the table. If it was and Jay Feaster nixed it due to stupidity (or ownership nixed it due to stinginess) I would be far from happy about it.

Remains to be seen if Feaster is just the team appointed custodian for the removal of players, and he's out the door soon after, or if he's been given the keys.....underwhelming to this point if he's the one to take the team into the next era.
Tough to say...the timing of the ROR offer sheet mess up meant that it was tough to dump him as a GM in order to make whatever trades (buying/selling) that needed to be done now.

Feaster interview on Sportsnet right now. They're using an old pic of him, not a fan of him as GM but his commitment to losing weight should be commended.

if by 'honest' you mean, extremely patient, sure.
The fact that the flames appear to have little interest in getting developed prospects in any of their returns, we are looking at a lengthy period of time (at least 3-5 years) before the flames are even relevant again. Even that is a stretch when you consider how long it's taken Edmonton.

Gotta give props to Feaster. The reason most guys take lesser returns who are NHL ready is to save their own backsides. Feaster is tying this team, and perhaps his future, to the draft and younger players. Taking risks that if/when they pan out he might not be around to see. Definitely doing what he believes is right for the long term, we have seen too much short term thinking around here. Well done.
Scores points in my book.

just listened to the interview from the fan last night.
I found the last part of it interesting where he puts this "all on him" claiming he wasn't as intellectually honest as he needed to be.
Big of him to shoulder that, when i think even the most avid hater of feaster would agree, it wasn't really he alone that refused to change this train wreck up earlier.
my knee-jerk emotional reaction has subsided this morning. Let's see what htis draft brings us. Let's see what other teams are forced to do this offseason due to the cap being chopped down, and how the flames try to grab assets of desperate teams in such a position.....
i really don't care about the personalities making these decisions, just looking forward to seeing some smart moves to redefine the shape of the franchise.

Losing 215 pounds of dead weighg yesterday was a good start. Hopefully he can lose a few hundred more by tomorrow.

Iginla and Bouwmeester for:
4 prospects, 2 first rounders, nearly $14 million in cap space
Removing the emotional connections with the names in question, I have to say we got a pretty decent return for the players we've dealt -- and with the moves we're bound to see in the next 2 days we should be set up very well for a rebuild.

Those 4 prospects are also doing very well in their leagues. They might not have star potential, but they could become solid contributors. They'll definitely have the opportunity. It's not like they have anyone's job left to steal....

Silly question, but can we get rid of Kipper and stay above the cap floor?

I think they can get rid of both Cammalleri and Kipper and stay above the floor. Don't quote me on that 100%

I think they'll take back a boat anchor contract in a trade soon just so they can get more back.

Just because he figures it out when the team is predictably in the cellar isn't anything to be commended.

Feaster isn't going to last 48 hours after the season is over. He'll be replaced by a Gm who wants to rebuild the team. That being said, regardless of who burns it all to the ground it's going to take years and years for the team to put a respectable product on the ice. It'll also take just as long to attract free agents again.
