It really depends on the frame. Some are rx-able while others are not.
http://www.fyidoctors.com/eyeclectic...r-eaton-centre - go here. The Optometrists working there are excellent.

One more question (that basically outs me as a big wimp). Why did I faint when both doctors showed me the "x-ray" of my eyes? (okay so I didn't actually faint, but I would have if I had not known that I was about to).

Why is this? Thanks.

They are not a necessary part of an eye examination. Figuring out your prescription is part of a full oculo-visual assessment as defined by our regulatory body. A PD measurement and CL fitting are separate measurements/procedures outside of this.
That is why that information will be provided after an additional fee.

Is it better to buy glasses/replace lenses in Optometrist office vs Retail Store?
I was wondering would it make a significant difference between 1.6 and 1.67 for my prescription (-5.25 with no astigmatism)?

There can be good and bad of both. Even within the same company. Shop around and find a place you like.
Generally you are going to get better quality with your optometrist though
Get a 1.67 if the frame is larger or semi -rimless.

With regards to contacts, the optometrist gave me prescription of -5 (Glasses prescription is -5.25). He also said if it feels to strong try -4.75.
So far -5.25 is overall pretty good especially when I am outside, more clearer and I can notice details better. Sometimes it can feel a bit strong like when I am on the computer, though. Should I switch to -4.75 for contacts?

If you get headaches with the higher power then yes. It may come down to preference for you.
1) Give up a big of distance for more comfortable near
or
2) Great distance Vision, but some strain @ near
Unfortunately you likely fall between the two powers.

Hi, I ordered 1.67 lenses for my semi-rimless glasses. I have a prescription of -5.25 with no astigmatism. I am not sure if I made the right choice since somewhere I read that 1.67 has poor abbe value?

It should be ok without Astigmatism. Not all 1.67 Index Lenses are made the same so it is tough to judge. 1.74 would have been better if you had the option/money.

So I got my 1.67 lenses. I have a problem though, when I look straight on its fine but slight turn of my head the vision gets blurry/out of focus. For example, as I my typing, if I turn my head slightly the text gets out of focus. If I look from away from the centre, its not so clear. Its quite annoying having to turn your head fully just so that you can see things clearly!
Do you think something is wrong with my lenses, or maybe it was done incorrectly?

Was it from online ? Or in store ?
That is a common trait of lenses from online. The exact Center is the only place with the correct prescription, so if things are off by even 1/8mm you will get distortion.
