Got here at 10AM and it was ridiculous already. 3 separate lines from parking lots and station converging into one bottleneck. If you chose the right line you might get lucky. Every 10 minutes the line seemed to double. When I got to the door the other end of the line had looped and lapped us. Chances aren't looking good for anyone arriving 10:30 - 2:00 I think

Can't believe the demand for this in Calgary.

Sounds a lot less organized than SDCC. Sad to hear of the out of towners coming for the expo having so much trouble.

oh man, I'm glad I'm missing this, i've taken my kid the last two years and he loved it, but both times I just showed up and bought tickets at the door and walked right in.

I think last year we went around 330 though when everything was winding down, but that line up is still pretty ridiculous. good luck, hope you all get in.

I know nothing about comic books and there was still plenty of interesting stuff for me there. It's not just comics!

EDIT: No clue is this tweet is legit, but it would make sense.
@greggbeever just heard that the @Calgaryexpo pre-sales equalled last year's attendance. Event clearly oversold, despite #calgaryexpo claims

I didn't mean just comic books but I don't know who the guests are or what the demand is for such an event. For example, I don't watch Walking Dead. /ducks

I'm a jock.

This is just a cell phone pic from yesterday, all my pics are still in RAW and I've had no time (family visiting) to go through any.

Thought about heading today, but not after what happened yesterday.

I guess without someone providing free communication equipment they have decided to for-go communications?

Last year we figured that a nominal charge was in order as they weren't an NPO...

Showed up around 9 and had tickets bought by 9:50 or so. Got in right around 10. Looks like we narrowly missed the ticket sale freeze.

"Comic" Expo is really wrong term, "SiFi/Pop Culture" Expo is more accurate really. At the end of the day it's a flea market/costume contest/meet & greet event. For the most part there's something for everyone who's even mildly into science fiction. Even those who simply enjoy watching Star Wars marathons on Spike would likely find something they enjoy there.

But yeah, the meet & greet/autograph thing doesn't hold much appeal for me, the panels (celebs & creators discussing their shows) is entertaining/informative for sure. But it's also the type of thing you could see on TV and get the same info from.

This years cluster fata aside, it's typically an entertaining way to spend an afternoon, even for the casual fan. The one thing I wish I had gotten into the expo for this year was the back to the future Delorian photo op, the money raised is going to Micheal J Foxes' Parkinson's foundation, plus it's the freakin Delorian.

I have a theory. Considering the people running this thing have never actually 'worked' in their life, they simply didn't have the experience. (And no, taking out the garbage and shovelling the driveway for allowance doesn't count.) If it is true, they didn't have access to the PA system, that is mind blowing. I know the room it is in down there. All someone had to do was ask the Stampede staff for access to it. Even if their was a rental charge for it, they were already rolling in wheel barrows of money, they should have used it.

I rode my bike through the grounds today, and what a shart show. Some neat costumes and stuff. This is the thing though. It would be cool, to actually see a built guy in one of these superhero outfits. Supermans shirt is supposed to show off his man of steel physique, not look like a jean jacket.

For people who don't work/never have they sure seem to have a lot of disposable income. On par with the guys spending $200+ seat for a Flames game and dropping $125+ more on a jersey.

It almost suggest these people not only work, they have good, high paying jobs... possibly in the energy sector... there's a few high paying jobs in this city right?

Pylon, what the hell are you talking about?

What have you seen heard or read to suggest the organizers have never worked a day in their life?

What a stupid ass theory based on... Your imagination?

I saw a gymrat dressed as Bane yesterday - dude was jacked and super friendly. Gave time to my son for a photo and talked to him about his costume.

I can tell you that one of the organizers has his own business and has a young family. Some of the guys sacarfice some of their own money to run this show.
