An article from the Flames about Sven and coming back from his concussion:

http://flames.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=615686

Quote:
"When I had the concussion, I kind of got scared," he admitted. "I was thinking about Crosby. Calgary took over then and said 'We want you to be 100 percent before you go back on the ice,' and exactly the same thing said the Portland management."
Quote:
"It was tough to come back after a head injury. It was tough to come back and play the same way you did before.

"For the first couple games, it was kind of weird. I was kind of scared going into battles 100 percent ... It's always somewhere in the back of your head - the concussion. If it happened then, then you're kind of scared now."

After getting a few games under his belt, he began to feel much more confident about his play. Every outing has been a step forward and has helped diminish the doubts Baertschi had when he returned.

"It needs time," he acknowledged. "The first game back, I didn't expect for myself to go in like crazy with hits and stuff. It's very hard to describe how you feel after a concussion and it just needs some time."
Quote:
"Since I left Calgary, I saw how hard I have to work to make the team there," he stated. "The first couple games back (in September), I just wanted to make sure I do all the things I do out there on the ice the right way.

"I wanted to do everything perfect so I really worked on a lot of things during the season."

Moving forward, Baertschi knows exactly what he needs to focus on.

"Try to be a leader out there on ice and try to help out my teammates. That has helped me a lot during the season so far. I'm not too worried about points or anything.

"I think I've played with a lot of confidence this year and I just want to make sure I'm ready for next year."

We seriously need to draft a good Center to play with this kid.

Looks like we'll have quite a logjam at LW if he makes the team next year. Tanguay, Cam, Glencross, Sven. Can't Cammalleri play RW since he seems to be on the right side all the time anyway?

When Sven eventually makes the Flames I sure hope he has a strong first season just for his sakes the expectations on this kid are going to be huge.
I say you do not bring him up until he is absolutly ready to deal with everything involved.
If next training camp he blows the door off then bring him up.

Ya I could definitely see a Bartschi - Backlund - Cammalleri line next year, Bartschi could be a great set up man for Cammy.

I just hope that Backlund can get some of his confidence back. He has a great set of hands, is fast and can fore check pretty well. To me his issues are mental, and maybe playing with some strong offensive players like Cammy and Baertschi might be good for his psyche.

Count me as one who thinks that Baertschi will be on the Flames next season, and will surprise a lot of people with just how good he will be.

It's really going to depend what role the coaches/management allow him to play / put him in.

If he's on a 3rd line "energy line"... I don't think he's going to have much of an impact... However if they can find some good linemates for him on the 2nd line (ie: Cammalleri, Jokinen, etc), then I'd agree with you that he'll have some offensive output right away.

I think I've seen Bartschi play RW a few times. He might be able to try switch hitting like Bourque.

Can't wait to see this guy in a Flames uniform in the next couple of years. Excited to watch him in Abbotsford too.

If he remains uninjured throughout the rest of the season, what are his projected point totals supposed to be? Sven makes me excited.

I think he'll get in the 90-95 point range. If he gets 100 that would be great.

Last year when we drafted him I said "he's going to put up 100 points" next year. Now he is not only on pace to do just so, but if he stays healthy for the rest of the year he'll do it with missing 20 games.

Insane.

Do the flames call him up? Can they?

I'd like to see him get post season action like Iggy did back in the day.

He could also really help this team right now.

Flames can't call him up until playoffs unless it is on an emergency situation.
