Now PSU football knows what it's like to be raped and left feeling helpless and violated like those children that they swept under the rug for the pride of their football team.

I think the big thing is the fact that so many people who ought to have been the right people to stop this turned a blind eye.

I think this punishment was appropriate and really sends a strong message. I applaud the NCAA for doing it.

The punishment is appropriate, but it wasn't the NCAA's place to do it. Their role is to prevent and punish actions that can give teams a competitive advantage, and the failings of Sandusky, Paterno and the three other guys who were involved didn't do that. If Sandusky's victims had won $60 million in a lawsuit, I'd applaud it, but this was nothing more than a PR stunt by the NCAA.

Having said that, whether it was proper or not, it makes me feel good to know that Paterno is no longer the winningest coach in college history.

My only real problem with this is the NCAA going with the whole "Don't want the culture of football superceding the academic culture". Yeah nice try there NCAA, but take away the football crazy schools from the SEC, Big 10, Big 12 and Pac-10 and you can basically say goodbye to more than half your revenue.

Can someone explain how not giving kids scholarships is in any way making up for someone harming children? At the end of the day if they legislated fines against Penn State I have to hope that the money is being put towards a good cause and not just into a general funds type of account.

The NCAA said the $60 million was equivalent to the average annual revenue of the football program. The NCAA ordered Penn State to pay the penalty funds into an endowment for "external programs preventing child sexual abuse or assisting victims and may not be used to fund such programs at the university."

Money. Less good players come, less wins, less bowls, less money.

And if the NCAA had done nothing and claimed it wasn't their place to do it, there would be people who would crucify them for it.

What happened was reprehensible and whoever has the authority to punish those actions should take full advantage of that authority. Not doing anything would make them look like the catholic church.

This might seem like a stupid question, Penn St played Ohio St in 2010. Both teams have now had the game vacated. Did it actually happen?

My understanding is that it did not happen. It isn't considered a W or L for either team so basically it has been wiped from existence.

Well here's the first problem for the Big Ten: One-third of the teams in the Leaders Division are ineligible for the championship this year due to failures in leadership. Still want to keep those names, Delany?

Man, the Paterno family simply cannot let it go:

http://www.cnn.com/2012/08/03/us/pen...html?hpt=hp_t2

Joe Paterno's family said Friday it intends to appeal the National Collegiate Athletic Association's sanctions against Penn State University in the aftermath of the child sexual abuse scandal.

But the family's plans hit an immediate roadblock.

"Penn State's sanctions are not subject to appeal," said NCAA spokesman Bob Williams

Talk about not wanting to accept that Joe did anything wrong.
